B18CR's from Japan are stamped "B18C"

USDM Type R motors say "B18C5"

and type R gearboxes are S80 (There are other sorts of S80's around also)

Do some searching to find how out a motor stamped B18C is actually a Type R motor.

yeah man ..... im just making sure... as im going down to Hamilton this weekend to pick up my engine & gearbox.... and just making final inquiries as to how to tell if it is dead too.

As the guy who is selling me the engine wrote off his ek civic he had the conversion in.. he can't start it as there is no loom it got stolen... so yeah... i was just trying to think of a few ways of telling if the motor has seized or anything else is wrong with it... all i could come up with was :

compression test... wretchet on crank and turn haha

......but not as accurate as ( correct me if im wrong....) using a compressor in the cylindar and listening for any air running out of the intake .....

Yeh search around on the net and honda-tech.com for how to tell if the motor is geniune.

Checking if the gearbox is a real type R one: Must say S80 on it, and you should be able to see through the diff where the axels go in, make sure there is no pin obstructing the view (meaning its a LSD)

Y80 is a long gear ration DC2 regular B18C box

    Type R's also have a PR3 head, B18C standard P72.

Doesnt this mean that the NZDM ones should say b18c5? If so, my one doesnt on the orginal motor.

Yours will say B18C something else, I dunno. Maybe B18C6 have a look.
Or maybe they just used the B18C stamped block also

bit of green paint by the dizzy on the head, head uses exhaust bolts and 2 studs for the exhaust flange, (B16a head uses mostly studs for the exhaust)

Im pretty sure the starter motor is different but I can't remember how. Lighter or smaller or just different i dunno.

headers if still stock use a stainless lower peice and a cast top piece, 98 uses stainless 4-1.

maybe you could put the engine number into hondas new system that I have just been told about and it may say what car it was from.
