    Del Sol Electric roof problem

I have recently purchased a crx del sol and the electric roof is not working. I have a receipt from the previous owner that said that the gears had been replaced and that the problem could be a broken caple. I'm in Auckland can anyone suggest a reasonable place to have it fixed.
    Thanks in advance

    What are the symptoms?

Does the boot go up when you put the key in it?

Can you crank it manually from behind the drivers seat.

Honda is probably the only place thatll be much help, it wont be cheap though.

If you purchased it with it not working I hope you got it very cheap.

Good luck, your gonna need it

When you push the button, the boot comes up but the tilt motor isn't working so the computer goes into panic mode and the only way to get the boot down is to reset the computer. All the gears have been replaced and honda suspects its the cable. If all else fails I'll take it back to them, but I was hoping that someone else might have fixed one before.
The car itself is great, its got all the bits on it and it goes like stink. It would just be nice to have the roof working.

So the main motor is working fine, its just the roof motor thats playing up?

If so its probably a good sign  Pull the trim off and check the cable. The cable goes from the roof motor down the drivers side into the corner behind the drivers seat then through the corner of the bulkhead and into the boot where it connects with the main motor.

Have you tried winding the roof up manually? If your not sure Ill dig out my owners manual and give you directions

Basically you stop the car and put the handbreak on.

Unlock the roofpanel on both sides.

You hold down the button on the dash and the windows will go down, then the boot will rise up staying level until the underside is slightly higher than the roof

A hydraulic ram lifts the rear of the roof panel up, two forks come out of the bootlid and slide into the roof panel. Then the ram goes back down again. The forks pick up the roof and bring it back into the cavity underneath the bootlid.

The bootlid then goes back down and the process is finished.

If its all working properly it takes about 40 seconds

I've had a brief look at the manual wind. Actually I had to sit all the parts into their place. I think I might be missing the part that fits into the two holes. There is one for the roof, and one for the boot.
Some instructions would be good, then I could see what I need to get and go from there.

I'll try to get to the cable on Saturday and suss out if that could be the culprit

Do not keep turning the wrench handle after the roof tilter has been raised or lowered fully. The handle may spin reversely with force when you release it
Youll need the roof panel unlocked for that obviously

Try that, if not I suggest something else

I pulled the pannels off and found the cable. But it appeared normal to me. I don't exactly know how it works, so I might take it in somewhere to have a look at it

best place would be Honda cars, I knew a case that owner tried to fix it him slef, the car end up at Honda cars for 2 weeks, what happened was there is a procedure of testing the system, buy if u muck up some thing in the middle, it will bring up other related fault then it's harder to find out the acture fault, so if you fix the wrong thing, then they will need to test the whole system from Step one, in the honda hand book there is about 100 odd step to go through to FULLY test the system., not the easiest thing to fix on Honda i would say

Is the cable drive making any noises to suggest that it is going? There is a switch up in amongst the gears that may not be activated to start the drive motor for the gears. If the gears have been replaced they may not have got it back together properly. (Oh it may not have been plugged back in aswell)

    Hope thats some help

    Update.

Well I've had a play with the manual wind.
In fact after the maunal wind didn't work I got curious.
I took off the plastic bit holding the tilt motor and unbolted the cable from the motor.
Then I tried the manual wind again.
I established the the manual wind was not turning the motor end of the cable.

Can I therefore assume that the cable is broken??

If you have removed the plastic trim and the cable from the tilter you can us a square screw driver to turn the mechanism. Do not force it though, this will tell you if the tilter gears are ok or not.

Take the whole unit out, they are heavy! Having a manual roof is mean, I used to pull over aside and took the roof out by hands and put into the boot with my mate's b18c del sol.. lol..
