Spark plugs covered in engine oil

When driving the Honda the engine sometimes shuts off randomly(pretty dangerous when you're travelling at 100kms/hr on the mway).
Done a few checks to find that the spark plugs are covered in oil.
I'm a busy man and don't have time to fix this myself...I'm guessing the spark plug seals(along with the rocker gasket cover needs replacing).
How much does this usually cost to get fixed? Also, could anything else be causing this issue?

What are the chances you have too much engine oil? Ie over the max marker...

Did you recently service the vehicle? If it's only just started to happen.

care to explain how having to much oil in the sump is going to cause oil to leak into the spark plug holes?

yup your on the right track, get new sparkplug seals and rocker cover gasket. easy job. as HD said its a 15 minute job, always good to check the tappet clearances while the covers off.

    seen it before *shrugs*

Mmm dox is the man. From memory it was also relating to the gasket rocker cover but the vehicle did also have too much engine oil.

It could very well happen, someone I know filled up her car with oil...to the top of the filler hole on the rocker cover.

coincidence maybe? the spark plugs cant get oil on them if the gasket is sweet, no matter how much oil is in the motor

It could possibly be however wouldn't too much oil in the engine create higher pressure when mechanical parts moving have less free room to move thus possibly dislodging the gasket? I'm sure the spark plugs would be the least of your worries with too much engine oil. Right?

all engines have a breather of some description, and usually a PCV system for emissions.

End of the day, i dont think this is going to cause ur engine to randomly stop on the motorway. Something more along the lines of fuel relay, distributor etc.

When u replace your seals make sure your PCV valve is working correctly, if its blocked crankcase can pressurise and cause oil leaks like you have. This is only on rare occasions, its probably more the fact the seals are old and gone hard

i tend to replace every gasket if im removing a part that has one, dont see the point in pulling parts
off and not replacing gaskets for the sake of a few bux. so ever time my rocker cover comes off
i have a new cover gasket and plug seals to put on. i fukn hate oil leaks, oil belongs on the inside not the outside.

yes , he means by the engine being over filled the oil can pass the oil rings and thus causing oily spark plugs. in this case he means inside the bore. i think INPHAMISTICS means down the plug hole itself , which means he has to replace the rockercover gasket , and plug hole gaskets (comes in a set) and they're cheap and easy to replace. just put a dab of silicone at the points where the cams are. its generaly where they leak.

surely you would notice the big cloud of blue smoke and the high usage of oil if that were the case
