Thread: Dash light not working, smell like burnt electronic/plastic

Hey guys, need some help here on my Honda Prelude 93. Don't know what is the reason, when I turned on the car part of the dash lights are not working, specifically the speedo and rpm meter, the rest are still lighting up. And drove just down the road it smelled like burnt wires, so I have to take it home. And the question is, what could be the problem? Burnt out fuse? Short circuit?

One of the headlight was not working last week as it was burnt out and the plastic sticks to the bulb hence i cut the whole wire and replaced it and it was working fine since then. I'm not electrically minded but do you think I have the wire connected wrongly that causes this problem? This car has a fair share of electrical issues since i own it last year.

id pull the dash and check it out bro, failing that take it to a auto sparky and have it looked at, last thing ya want is a fire going on in there.

Very, very weird. Your headlight wiring shouldn't have any effect on your dash lights and you definitely shouldn't be melting and burning things. I'd suggest checking that all your fuses are the correct rating, as per the diagram on the fuse box covers, that's the only way I can think of that things would melt.

Thanks for the advice guys, pretty scary stuff. I will probably get a mechanic to check them tomorrow, just in case and see how it goes.
