    NZH Electronica Thread

Just after a discussion on the other forum I frequent, what is your favorite style of electronica? Just trying to gauge where the current love/hate is directed towards with "average people" (not like on my Trance forum, which is pretty biased).

    Will chuck a poll up.

I cant tell the difference. They are all different names for the same stuff to me.
I do like the general dance stuff e.g. wild gold and MOS albeit.

Perhaps a couple of links to certain popular styles?
    Thanx

    Other: DnB/Dubstep/Jungle/Hardstyle, Hard (filthy) House/Breaks/Hardcore

Btw, I dislike Trance - with a passion but I've just grown out of thats all, used to be into it when I was 16..

Some of my mates would object to your "Happy Hardcore Crap" option

Myself, I'm into dubstep, dnb and hardstyle mostly

Damn can't choose multiple, I'm into trance in general, specifically vocal and progressive/uplifting trance.

    Re: Attention Electronica Fiends

^Yeah it is quite hard to define the genres since now alot of DJ's have songs which kinda crosses the sub-genres. I just go by the feel of the song.

House: Typical house music are the Ministry of Sound series. Usually not very bass heavy with very pronouced high hats. Usually "techno remixes" of popular songs will be house.

Trance: Typical trance would be stuff from DJ Dean, Armin van Buuren, John O'Callaghan etc. Pronounced bassline, high hats not very emphasized and main focus is on the electronic melodic tunes.

Drum and Bass: Concord Dawn stuff, very fast bassline and high hats.

Hardstyle: Kinda like drum and bass in that it has a very heavy bassline but no fast high hats like D n B.

Those are the basic definitions in my books.

Trip hop here... Unkle, DJ Shadow etc etc. Does that count as electronica? Just dig the shit outta breaks and sampling.

    Re: Attention Electronica Fiends

Drum and Bass is my personal favourite but that is not what people want to hear.

Go to a club and see what other people are playing to get a good idea.
Here is what I guage people like when I go to the clubs.

-People don't want to hear obscure justin timberlake/janet jackson/madona esque pop songs every 5 minutes

-People love the 'Pop' house as you would call it. Think Fredde Le Grande, Benny Benassi, that kinda stuff (pretty much MOS annual 08) basshunter/cascada esque songs go down well too.

-Unless your club is a designated trance kinda club trace, soft techno, happy hardcore can get kinda lame for the average clubber.

-the odd, timbaland, mrs Spears song goes down pretty good.

    - If your feeling adventurous try dropping Low (T-pain/Flo-rida) or Church (T-pain). Ive seen those song rock the house down lol.

It all depends on what club your playing at though

Fuckit, can't select more than one! The electronic genres confuse me mainly because as MMJA said they cross over heaps. I like trance, DnB, dubstep, house. . .

But generally almost anything in any electronic genre suits me haha

Ok, so I am a little biased towards trance (a lot actually). I'd just put it down as deep house.

um.....im still trying to figure out what electronica is !!!!

cant stand any of it really.......... other than a couple of generic "hear them on the radio" catchy tunes like "put your hands up for detroit" I assume thats the name of the song......it is its only lyric after all.

but yea dont get it.......especially the shit with no lyrics at all......

    sorry.

    Re: Attention Electronica Fiends

I was going to make a similar post but decided that seems how its a dedicated electronica (or "techno" as you and anyone else pushing 30 might call it) thread I'd keep out of it. It just doesn't seem like real music to me when its made on a computer.

But regardless of what us haters think, this thread is about electronica not music in general, so if you don't like it then go start your own thread about metal/country/rap/whatever and don't post in this one.

    Fair enough!

Think of the best guitarist in the world though. You could sit through him playing an epic solo and be entertained and enjoy it right? Electronic music is much the same thing, it's not about deep and meaningful lyrics (hell, half of the time the lyrics are cheesy as shit anyway), it's about the beat and the energy...

Fuck it, just take a pill, go to a rave and you'll understand

All good everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I mean I can say I'm not a big fan of metal but that's just me.
