    stainless steel properties?

    anyone know the difference between stainless steel grade 304 and 306?
    as much info as possible would be great. also a link to where i can find info would be grand.

    ok i think you mean 304 and 316 not 306 the different is 304 is standard stainless steal and 316 is marine grade and has better anti corrosion properties and is more resistentto acid and the enviroment it is in
    just enought power to get sideways

    not 316 i stated 306, ive tried google aint found much, any1 shed some light? if not then all is good

    well then you dont get 306 in new zealand only we only have 304 316 and 321 if you lucky
    just enought power to get sideways

    AFAIK its just a higher grade of anti-corrosion, nothing to do with the strength.

    from what i can see online 306 seems to be pretty much the same as 304 but as mentioned maybe slightly more corrosive resistant and less magnetic.

    I will try to remember to check with the materials books and people at work tomorrow, no guarentees but :wink:

    That Matweb site is really good, we use it alot at work but I couldn't find anything on 306 stainless either on the net or in the books at work. Just out of interest can you please post the sites / info you found?
