Re: Where Did You Start Off?

Started off as a baker for New World in Albany, mainly just bagging the bread and shit, paid my way through school/Uni (AMES lol). Wrote off my first R33, figured I should get a job, applied about 3 companies, including one called iiNet and had a call back from them that night and went in for an interview the next day and was working about a week later. Just doing phone support for idiot Australians. Was good at it, but found it not very challenging and the hours frustrating. Then Dad does an interview with a guy IBM was hiring (Dad was the technical side, had his manager there too asking all the HR sorta questions) and the guy was a complete muppet, said "my son knows more than him" and I started 2 days later.

Still ended up hiring the 'muppet' anyway.
I've been internalising a really complicated situation in my head.

    Srs note:

Played around with computers as a kid (Queue retro games thread), was also quite arty etc.

Did Degree in IT, made decision that design/art was not where the money was at so went with my other passion.

Re: Where Did You Start Off?

Started off cleaning floors/emptying bins for the local garage back in 2006. Was twice a week after school for a couple of hours. That paid my gas and the left overs went to the local bakery at lunchtimes. That was pretty much the same thing for 2-3 years. Still with the same people 6 years later. Bosses are hard on ya but bloody good. Doing my apprenticeship now and it's something I want to continue with. Was born into loving cars and my kids will be too!!

Had various other jobs in between.

Did some lino and carped laying for 2 weeks during the holidays. A good experience but hard labor.

Did some irrigation work for 2 weeks during the holidays. Again a good experience and hard labor. Enjoyed it being outdoors.

Worked as a delivery driver at hells for 2.5 years. Didn't move up positions/pay but ended up training drivers and doing heaps of in store and customer work. Really enjoyed working there now I think of it. Make ya own pizzas were minta too!

Re: Where Did You Start Off?

finished high school then, went to study Civil Eng but that started to bore me after 2 years so didnt want to work for my dad, parents said pick a trade and go with it, was going to pick mechanic but thought electrician was more me.
started apprenticeship at Otahuhu Powerstation 2002-2006
worked a couple more years for a company doing commercial buildings

decided to go overseas for a couple of years, ended up doing building maintenance which i actually enjoyed.
after i came back and not very interested in electrical as much, was going to go back to study but didnt know what, so saw a job for a maintenance tech/electrician at a hotel in auckland city
after a year being at the hotel i become the Chief engineer

now i am at NZ biggest hotel chain as the Chief Engineer looking after the maintenance for 3 hotels, doing a lot more hours then i used to but loving it
do u want me to leave a skid mark on ur face ? or a bukake ?

KFC>PPCS(Meat Works)>Fonterra>Asteron>Fujitsu>Telecom - Current (SAP Consultant), unsure of what the future entails, but has been excellent so far and the ability to translate something academic into something that can somewhat influence a large organization can only be a good thing. Aiming high at the moment whilst still young.

BCA>BCA(Hons)> MCA>Professional Doctorate (these are currently spread between VUW and Queensland Uni till 2013)

I consider work and academic as both my career, doesn't appear to want to end!

Wouldn't change a thing thus far!

Re: Where Did You Start Off?

Started off delivering the chch star at 13

Went and worked at pak'n'save in the grocery department at 15. started on $5.25 and hour. which i left just over a year later i was on 6.50.

at 16 and a half i started as a store man for Peter Baker Transport on $9 an hour and when i left i was on $11. Not bad for a 17 year old in 2002.

Just before my 18th birthday i joined the Navy in the Weapons Engineering branch. Specialized as a Weapons Technician and have moved my way up to Petty Officer. Due to unforeseen circumstances Ive had to change to an Electronics Technician, but ill still get to dable in weapons every now and then. get paid a decent buck for what i do

    Life story.

Done a temp xmas job at the Warehouse the year I left school (year 11), started an automotive course and work nights at a restaurant for a rapist boss (hes in jail now).
Left course, quit my job and moved to Auckland.. Done some labouring then got hired at an up market carpet place in New Market. Quit that job after about 6 months because I got sick of my manager smoking pot at work and the boss not doing anything about it.

Worked for a gardening company for a couple months then quit and went to unitec to study Hort after that I was hired at Totara Grove plant nursery out west where I spent a year and a half. I then got an awesome job as a monitoring arborist and quit soon after to move back to Whangarei... why? IDK.

I worked at an orchid place for a dbag boss for six months then I worked for his mate in persamins. Was offered a job at an avocado orchard in the middle of nowhere, turned it down.. Un employed for a while, then worked at hell pizza for a few months, loved it.

I now work full time as a gardener contracted to the council to do the citys amenity gardens and I love this job and the pay is good. My goal is to join the police thats what I really want to do.
