    The Olympics discussion thread

The Significant Sports Event Happening In Europe This Year - Thread - 7 Days To Go.......

The Olympics discussion thread - 7 days to go...

I have to say have been looking forward to this for a while now.....!!!

Track & field, swimming, weightlifting, the basketball, gymnastics.... whatever it is you like to watch..... the world records getting smashed, the close finishes...

What are you looking forward to watching and following?

Just seen on the news, that the bad traffic has started already... apparently something like 30 million visitors are expected... which will put a massive strain on traffic systems... 10,500 competitors (exact number??) plus crews from 205 countries...

The bigger they get every four years, the more problems they seem to have. China was a real fuckup leading up to the opening, at least London seem to have less problems. I wonder how big it's going to get in the near future before they just can't host it..

Looking forward to seeing some Kiwi's win!

I look forward to watching all the sports and the camera work involved in capturing the detail and intricacies of each sport. Of certain interest for me will be the flatwater kayaking, although will be somewhat bittersweet to watch, myself having met the Olympic qualifying criteria for the games earlier this year yet not getting the nod to race in London . Good luck to our team!!

    9 Days To Go.......

Random Olympic fact - The Olympic medals each must be at least 3mm thick & 60mm dia. Also, the gold and silver Olympic medals must be made out of 92 percent silver, the gold medal is covered in six grams of gold.

I always thought the gold medals were all gold.. but they are gold plated silver

Re: 2012 London Olympics Thread - 9 Days To Go.......

I usually follow the mountain biking, pentathalon and triathalons. Not so fussed on the track events like a lot of people seem to be. So, pretty much the sports I'd watch anyway .

Would be good to see Karate supported as an olympic sport, but I guess given there are quite a number of different styles it would be difficult to have consistent. Would be like letting Ferrari 360's into the V8 Supercars because they are also a V8.

Pretty sure they cap the number of events now and the time frame the olympics can be held to mitigate this

Yeah 107 so far have been dropped from there squads.... less than 1% of total athletes at the games. I think the total pool is around 14,500..

I'm looking forward to judo tbh. This will be the first time I can watch the sport having some experience in it. And those stats are impressive. Really shows how useless I actually am at life lol. 148kg snatch...holey moley...

The Women's 75kg Snatch is a discipline that really really needs to do some re-branding, asap.

Holy sheet that is a heavy weight for a little person to lift above their head though!
Olympics is just about the only sport I watch, just ridiculously talented and motivated individuals doing unbelievable things day after day.

If it was the other way around (Jerk and Clean) I would find it very hard to keep a straight face.
