It really depends on how much you pay...
Yep sure, America <> New Zealand.
No argument there (even though we seem to be coping more and more of their stupid ideas these days).
But the fact remains that an innocent person (ie the baby) was tasered - so those people above who defended the use of tasers by saying that innocent people don't ever get tasered are demonstrably wrong.

Yeah I'm not drawing any conclusions on this one (there's allegations she assaulted the coppers) - other than the baby inside was totally innocent. Yet still got tasered. And thus disproving the claims above that innocent people don;t get tasered.
Everyone seems to be avoiding my questions - did the 8 month old baby inside this woman deserve to be tasered, or was it guilty?
Would you want the mother carrying your child (even if she was a dick to the police) to be tasered and risk having to deliver your baby in the street?

Fact is, life is by and large unfair. Innocent people suffer all sorts of atrocities every day. I'm pretty sure there'll be plenty of examples of unborn babies being jeopardised at the hands of criminals because a policeman hesitated too long. No one this side of a fundamentalist zealot, psychopath or power-crazed dictator likes to see innocents suffer for no reason. Is that reason enough to ban tasers? No. It's reason enough to ban douches from using tasers, and from the breif skim of that article a few of them slipped through the vetting process for Chicago's finest. It's a human problem, not a taser problem.
Innocents will be tasered, it's inevitable. Innocents will also be hit by cars while crossing the street, but it's not the fault of the cars, nor is it an inherent failure of the motoring industry. It's just shit happening, and the driver will in most places be held to account and made to pay.
If I get tasered for no reason will I be unhappy? Bloody oath I will be. Will that make me want tasers removed from the police? No way. I have faith the PCA will do its job and find whoever tasered me was at fault and take appropriate measuers to ensure it doesn't happen again. It's not a perfect system but it's the best system we have available.
