Too much to pay for and save for!
Wow, what a 'fight' mens !
I've seen better from kindergarten kids.
2004 STi WRX ftw.
Over Hondas mens.
BTW was this really $40 for the ppv? WTF even the pacquiao fights are only $25 I think.
The PPV cost was ridiculous, I went to a pub down the road to watch it. I think people are being a bit harsh, this kind of thing looks a lot simpler watching from the safety of your telly- hell people bag David Tua for just taking punches and hoping to land a big hit.
SBW has had few fights - but he has won them all, and he has beaten people who have beaten other top-ranked NZ heavy weights. He is obviously capable.
To put this into perspective... anyone in this thread knocking that fight, go to a local boxing club and challenge the best boxer in that club to a 5 round fight. I could be wrong, but we'd be lucky if one or two people in this thread would make it through that.
Now do the same thing at a regional level...
Now do the same thing at a national level...
Relative to NZ, SBW *is* a force to be reckoned with currently - like it or not, and its impressive that he has got that far that quick... no doubt capitalising on "who he is" to skip jumping a few hoops Joe Bloggs would have to, but imho he has delivered the goods required to get there currently.
Sure, he pales compared to David Tua - though David Tua was in just a completely different league to any current NZ heavyweight. When Shane Cameron held the NZ Heavyweight title HE was miles ahead of the main challengers, and David Tua gave him a short sharp lesson that the world is a big place and NZ boxing is a small part of it.
Keep that in mind, don't cut down the tall poppies here- they are still mostly little ones in the grand scheme and it seems ridiculous to hate on them in such a small remote area of the world.
On the flipside, if you think you can do better - get in there yourself... I bet the view is quite different when you are face to face with someone with a healthy reach, weighs 108kg despite carrying <12% bodyfat, and happens to have knocking you the fuck out very high on their priority list.

That's fair enough, however I have a slightly different analogy.
I'll get about a year's worth of training under my belt from some of the best trainers in the business, then I'll see what's on offer down at the local boxing club. I'll choose whoever I want to fight (I'll pick the fat bastard who's worked up a sweat just pulling his pants on), and I'll fight for a belt that no one holds from a sanctioning body no one remembers. What's more, I'll charge everyone $40 to watch the fight. My management will say I'm The Man for doing it and the media will suck it up. The best fighter in the club will challenge me, but I'll turn him down, and rightly so, because I'm still relatively inexperienced and I know he'll kill me.
I don't doubt that SBW has talent, he's clearly a natural athlete and a fight between us would last approximately 14 seconds - 4 for him to corner me and 10 for the ref to count me out. It's the BS wagon (that's you Mundine and Nasser) that's attached itself to him and promotes everything he does as the mostest awesomest thing evarrr that grates. I think he's a nice enough guy, seems pretty well spoken and friendly (but Matthew Ridge's daughter dude? Srsly?). I have no problem at all with SBW the man, I have a big problem with SBW the promotional product. Mundine and Nasser are going to ride him for everything they can get and it's going to reach the point where their hype is going to outreach his abilities, and the only one who's going to pay the price is SBW.
Let him box, play rugby, play league, do extreme ironing, whatever, just turn the hype down and let his skill speak for itself. If he's good he's good and he'll succeed on his merits, if he's bad...good on him for giving it a go.
Thanks to: Makita, Repco, The Warehouse.
Agreed, he really should lose Mundine etc if he wants to really get serious about it. In terms of his opponents, he guy he had originally lined up for this fight - and then his replacement are most logical choices for fighting for the title. They were both in the top 4 in line for the title, not counting someone who is potentially retired (David Tua - who would kill SBW), or Chauncy Welliver who has been fighting in Japan iirc. Since the fight Tillman has dropped to 7th and Tutaki (who was beaten by Tillman a few months ago) has dropped to 5th. The fact that people who look out of shape etc are who he fought is imho nothing to do with spinning anything, they were gatekeepers to the title.
Speaking of which, turns out Shane Cameron has suddenly decided to return to heavyweight. His first fight returning as a heavy fella? Monte Barrett... place your bets!
Guys making the money! And will continue to for years to come now. May even be the highest paid sportsmen in NZ soon.

Theres your answer as to Money Bill fighting an actual boxerWe've seen no letter, and between May of this year and 12 months after that is a very long time," Nasser said. "People in boxing also know that a national boxing belt is a stepping stone to a regional belt, which is a stepping stone to another regional belt, which is a stepping stone to another regional belt, which is a stepping stone to, hopefully, a world title.
"The national belt is still the first stage, so to say that someone will stay in one position, holding on to one belt, would be to say they have no intention of moving," he said.
"All of this talk is totally irrelevant right now."
