NZH "FPS Thread"

I figured there was no real thread on games in general, just platform specific threads, so figured I start one.

Are many others on here big FPS players? Currently I'm playing Black Ops and Bad Company 2 on Xbox Live (user: nykonchris). Mostly playing Black Ops team-deathmatch or ground-war though, as I just find it a more intense and fun multiplayer experience. Play Bad Company 2 when I feel like something more refined and tactile. Black Ops is just a bit too arcadey in a way, the environment and detail in Battlefield just blows Black Ops out of the water... it just engages you a lot more. I don't think that can be disputed!

I don't think they ruined it at all. If anything, they have only bettered the multiplayer aspect... just have had to move with the times. Technology wise, the games have only progressed, and the story-lines in the single player mode have become much better (IMO). Consoles just have to have cut-down graphics as compared to the PC versions (all "official" Battlefield 3 screenshots have been on top-spec gaming PC's).

I used to play 1942 and Vietnam online on my PC, and at LAN's, but... have far more fun playing Bad Company 2 on Xbox Live.

1942, Battlefield 2, and old school CS: S and 1.6 are the games that I have enjoyed the most. Can't get into the new COD and Bad Company . Heres hoping BF3 is decent, all it needs to be is an updated version of BF2!

Bad Company 2 is where it's at. Can always pick it up after not playing for months and go back to dominating, love it!

Fps is pretty much the only genre I play,MW2,Black Ops,Medal Of Honor,Gears Of War (not really fps but you know),Bulletstorm,Bad Company.All on 360,never played on PC but I might have one capable soon.Really looking forward to September,October,November when all the big games get released,not to mention the new Duke Nukem in a couple months.

I don't get playing FPS games on a console, its just not the same without a mouse! (I am aware using a mouse is possible on a console, but its not the norm)

I don't think they improved multiplayer that much, for me a glaring example is CoD6. And titles shifting focus from what once was a developed-for-PC-first to a developed-for-console-first really really irks me.

Looking forward to Battlefield 3 coming out however given how similar it looks to BC2 which I greatly enjoyed.

FPS on a console is like driving a car with a joystick. Sure, it works but would you really take it to the track that way?

I appreciate consoles but they're for other genres.

played the death out of MW2.. then Bad Company 2 got me hooked. Black Ops i found a little.. same as Nykon explained. Absolutely can't wait for Battlefeild 3!!

Pre-ordered BF3 a few months ago - cant wait. Now hopefully I can reach rank 50 in BC2 before it comes out.

Shouldn't have to worry about BF3, its being developed for PC first this time (so should be away better) then ported to console where as the previous BF's were developed for console then ported to PC.

Looking forward to 64 slot mutiplayer on PC (console only get 32 slot multiplayer), as well as Jets and a few other things (hopefully commander mode like in BF2)!!

One thing that is annoying me and everyone else is the trailers are only showing single player mode (every single one), people are more interesting in seeing what multiplayer brings to the table.

Too easy to win when they released the version where the apache had those large splash damage missles as the primary weapon, you could get almost a 100:1 kill ratio with it.

I played through Portal 2 yesterday with developer commentary turned on, all I kept hearing was "our play testers couldn't figure this out, couldn't figure that out so we changed it to be less complex" and I'm going out on a limb and making a massive assumption (after all, we're seeing/have seen a massive shift towards console gamers, and why does the mouse & keyboard need to be tested for a tried & true interface/genre for such a 'simple' game?) that it was console gamers that caused this, and the sad thing is if dev's keep dumbing down games for an ever dumbing gaming population what hope is there for a challenge?
I (like many) found portal 2 to not be challenging at all. There was no skill in it like there were in some of the test chambers in Portal 1. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy it though, absolutely fantastic dialogue, perfect length and co-op is a supurb blast.

Bad Company 2 is awesome, MW2 I can't help but feel the MP would be better if it had dedicated servers, so you're only affected by your latency to the server rather than to the host while they get virtually no latency.
Black Ops, well I exceed the minimum specs, but can hardly play it at my panel native res (1920x1200). I tried MP once it crashed on load - I gave up never to try again after having a terrible stuttery single player experience (4gb ram, dual core 3ghz cpu, tried with a 8800GT, then upgraded to a 570GTX and got the same performance, game would even crash loading that top down shooter)
BO is built on the same engine as MW2, MW2 runs sweet as a nut.
All Treyarch seem to be doing is pumping out DLC and minor play balance fixes.
