How to tell if ownership has been changed

Sooi sold my car, the person drove from hamilton to buy it, so i let them take it on the premise that they will change their side of ownership.(i done mine on the spot).
Its been a few weeks now and i got the LTSA letter to say it hasnt been changed
Sooo i carjammed it, it has the new owner but says unconfrimed
Is there a way i can check to see if it has been legally changed?

It means the other party hasn't done their part. Just contact them and ask them to do it asap

    Oh right.

FYI you only really need to change ownership if you are the buyer.

yeh, thought as much, just a lil worried because the car still under me? so if they where to go through a speed camera per se, that would come to me?
Just frustrating that they haven't done it yet, or they've taken so long

Yip. That's right. You shouldn't trust anybody with that situation. They make be legit but people are unreliable. They may just plain forget.

The only reason why you should do it as a seller is to protect your ass when shit hits the fan. Have heard stories from fellow NZH members about their cars being used for questionable activities which he had no part of, and was thankfully bailed out by the transfer papers on his end.

Doesn't matter. If you have done your half as the seller, you are fine, cars ownership is in limbo.

I always make sure new owner has proof of change of ownership before letting the car go, atleast I know its been done, learnt my lesson after one instance.

0800 108 809, ring them and say that you'd like to check that the new owner has confirmed the ownership change. I just had a similar issue, as was said above as long as you've put your form in you won't be liable for expired registration, however you will be for tickets that the car may get.
