Test day at Pukekohe tomorrow!
Weather is looking good, finally get to give my car a real drive.
Had a top day at the track, loving the car!
My impressions, compared with my last FTO.
*EP3 handles great, can really put the power down corner exits without understeer.
*More power, pity the limiter is at 190k, was hitting the limiter on the front straight.
*Took a while to get used to having a six speed tranny, figuring out where to change etc.
*Loving the sound of 9,000 RPM.
*I'm guessing my gearbox is a bit worn, it pops out of 4th gear on cornering on the track, can anyone confirm this?
So I had to quickly get used to going round the two fastest corners at Puke with one hand on the wheel and one holding it in gear!
*Evo rims with 225/45/16's were great, no rubbing on the inside of the guards.
*Used tons of fuel, used to do a tank plus a 20L jerry can for a day. Now I used that and was empty before last session, smaller fuel tank probably tho, will be taking the lawnmower can next time!
*BRAKE FADE. So frustrating. Was getting fade after several laps of very hard braking. Had to push down really hard to get them to work.
I think its not the pads as I've had them way hotter on the FTO and they still worked fine.
Will have to look this up as I'm not sure how to fix this... Any thoughts?
Things to do next-
keep an eye out for gearboxes
fix brakes somehow
get rid of speed limiter
inspect and rebuilt current box, 2nd hand super hard to get..
braided brake lines, race fluid, racing pads and sports or race discs
get speed limiter/ meter device..
should be a good start?

thanks for the tips,
can anyone recommend a place in the waikato to get the gearbox rebuilt?
As for the brakes, im using Mintex 1166 which im sure are not the problem as Ive been using them in my last car for years, and had them way hotter than they got yesterday with no fade.
But I have no idea what or when the brake fluid is or how old it is, so that's one easy thing to fix.
And keeping my eye out for other upgrade parts.
Replace that fluid. You don't need to buy bling bling expensive fluid. Start with fresh repco dot4 every time you hit the track - its made by penrite. If fresh cheap fluid is still boiling and causing you issues (which I'm sure it won't) then look at upgrading to some expensive fluid. So many people buy the good stuff but the. Don't change it enough and then complain.
Fresh cheap fluid change regularly is always better then expensive fluid changed once every 1 or 2 years!
save money to get your gbox reconditioned mate= more trackdays!

Do you mean one of these?
Spoon 5.062 Final Drive for K20A DC5 EP3 | Trade Me
I haven't really heard of these before, what are the main advantages?
Shorter gear range, faster accelleration.
Daily Driven.
your current gearbox will let you get about 290kph (dependent on tyre size) with a shorter final drive, say that spoon item it will let you get to only 270kph, but it will let you accelerate through the gears faster. you will never hit that sort or speed on the track in NZ and you could even go for a 5.46 or higher which gives a top speed of 250kph.
The only downside is your cruising rpm at 100kph changes and would be about 3600rpm as opposed to the 3100 odd on the standard final drive.
its well worth the upgrade if you need to pull the box apart
Almost.
The length between gears is the same.
As Jase pointed out, a drop in top speed increases the torque output to the wheels = more acceleration.
Put the biggest final drive in you can find and then a USDM 6 gear to bring the cruising RPM back down in top gear.
Or if you've got money go Gearx Mfactory and enjoy 900rpm between gear changes - ie, shit HAULS ASS.
And you are?
