    Honda newbie,

    Hey everyone,

I live in Auckland and I'm new to this forum. I've never had a Honda before but I feel in love with the CL1 euro R at first sight. So after years of hard saving. I have finally saved up barely enough money to afford one. Are there anything I should look for in particular, like common issues with the CL1. I'd really hate to screw up as I'm really new to cars. Please help me out.

    Thanks,

    Andy,

Sup Andy, welcome to NZH. As posted above, join the Accorneo Group, fair bit of info all related to your ride. issues or things to take care of: 5th & rev gears, eps, erg, window motors. Nothing to be concerned about but these things can pop up as faults when the car gets older.

Yeah welcome dude. I'd say a big thing to look out for, if it all possible, is seats. I've seen a bunch of nice looking CL1's, ruined because the seats are just rubbish. The fabric seems to turn to shit easily if not looked after. Just my 2c

    Re: Honda newbie,

Hey mate. Youd said you barely have enough to afford a euro, so I've done a quick trademe search for ya and
here are a few cheaper ones I have come across

    Honda Torneo Euro-R 2000 | Trade Me

Honda Torneo Euro R 2000 | Trade Me

Only advice would be to get them checked out first by a qualified mechanic,
preferably one that specialises in Hondas.

    Re: Honda newbie,

Thank you so much for the advice guys. I've just hit the 10 grand mark, that is everything saved up including my food and rent. I've had a look around but I cant see past the shell itself. So I wouldnt know anything to look for when it comes to cars. can you guys recommend a Honda specialist mechanic that is able to help inspect?

    Much appreciated

    Re: Honda newbie,

If you don't mind taking the potential car to Silverdale, I'm sure one of our Accorneo mechanics can look at it for you (diagnostic reader etc). Hit up Jonnyhonda here on NZH. You don't have to be a car nut to pick up on the basic details of a car; looking out for future maintenance issues will indicate how much the car is going to cost you in the long run. Eg. When is the cambelt due? ($800), does it need new tyres, brake pads? Any oil leaks around the engine or ticking noises etc. As much as I hate to say this but if you're tight for bills etc, maybe best to go with the Accord CL1 as while it's the same chassis as the Torneo, insurance can be cheaper and parts are more available. You can always post a wanted ad here on NZH with what you're after, wouldn't be surprised if it brings some sellers to the table. If you want to know more about costs of the CL1, post in the Accorneo group or Pm me if you want.
