    Do I need a tune?

Just pu a new exhaust system on with cat removed and test pipe in its place.. feel a little bit more power but from coupe r's dyno sheet seems like I should feel a bit more? Maybe a tune? Just serviced with penrite oil and new filter , going to change plugs soon .. Any good brand plugs recommended out there? Currently have ngk sparks with 8mm leads

Stock plugs are the best plugs for them. It isn't necessary to get a tune from such minor mods. Up to you. But you will need some way of tuning your ECU, ie, convert your ECU to obd1 with an ECU and conversion harness.

a load more power midrange. and gain some up top. can do conversion harness and ecu package if you decide to go down the obd1 route.

when replacing plugs just get the stock normal plugs, do not bother with platinum.. as for leads unless it is missing do not bother replacing them, just make sure they are tight on the plugs and tight on the dizzy cap.

Re: Do I need a tune?

You ITR ecu cannot be tuned for some technical reason. An obd1 ecu can be chipped and tuned.

ps, I have a conversion harness you will need if you need it.

Re: Do I need a tune?

Will any settings be changed eg air flow vtec timing when tek kicks in etc? How much would I be looking at for a obd1 ecu and conversion harness? Any downfalls from Itr ecu or in general? And plug and play?

Will I need anything else? Also what's he difference between obd1 and obd2? Just more specific tuning?

Re: Do I need a tune?

if you only have tek it cant be changed as it isnt variable.

you will gain power by having it tuned but its not going to kill your engine if you dont.

up to you how much you want to spend on it, a crome chip tune and conversion harness will run you about 6-800, but im unsure who in wellington can tune it for you.

Thats because I had a crappy aftermarket crush bent 2 1/4 system on there, then went to madrel bent 2.5".

oh and just because one person got a good gain doesn't mean everyone will get a good gain, even though setups are very similar they still make different power levels

yeah true.. but gives me a rough idea lol... anyways i was thinking of just doing the odb1 ecu + chipped etc etc for now, anyone know how much HP/kW is lost through the drive chain? roughly 200hp/149kW from flywheel of a stock itr how much kW/hp atw's after all that mechanical power loss =/ ?

drive train loss is usually around 15%

hating on the subbys yet doesnt know about his own honda.... kidding mate haha,
after a tune expect around 130-140kw atw with a bunch more midrange power,
taking 15% away from 150kw (for arguments sake) you'd be left with around 125fwkw.
remember though that these were figures quoted when the motors were brand new...

yip to get that sort of power just look at a decent header and exhaust system and a basic intake preferably with cool air feeding it, plus the chip and tune you have mentioned and you'll be away. there are literally hundreds of examples on here to look at and compare

haha bloody subys ae, even tho my mates sti will anihilate most things on the street id take a dc2 any day, plus they are bastards to work on

Just going to put it out there, probably best not to link to those videos here, We generally try to stay away from the whole street racing/drag train scene around here. Its not a good look for the club.
