I have just been given some factory 14" steels and was just wondering what sort of pricing and who is a good company to deal with for widening them.
Cheers, Chris.

Hey Chris any engineering shop will be able to do it. I know there's a place that widens em for about 80 a wheel. Do your shopping, should be much easier to source one in Auckland than Welly

i havent used them personally as ive never done widening of steelies.... but when i was thinking about it a few people on here recommended them, and said they were all good. Once you know what your wanting done i guess you just ring/email every engineering shop around for a price.

Any engineering shop will be able to widen them, but it's the balancing that counts. No point if they're untrue and shitty. Steel surgeon come recommended in Akl by many people I know who have used them. For those of you in Wellington, use Howat Engineering.
Old cars. Oh yeah.
not sure of pricing but i know Brugar Engineering on the north shore are good too and have done a fair bit of wheel work.
Only heard good things about steel surgeon. What car you thinking about them for chris?
Its so much more fun to drive a slow car quickly - Jay Leno

2c worth, pulled all the wheel nut centres out of a set of widened steels on my Mini.
All the wheel nuts stayed bolted to the hub. The steel around them tore and the wheel went away. Would not ever again use widened steels.
No, not repositioned centres. The basic widen / band.
That seems like an issue with the wheel centers rather than anything altered by the widening process though?
Though I suppose the alteration to the wheels' original offset would have resulted in more stress around the hub mounting... but I usually thought that was an issue that affected wheel bearings on the car, rather than the wheels themselves?
I will be storing the wheels in Auckland till I sort myself out, then get them made up here. Haven't got a car yet as I am moving to the South Island, but will do soon in the next couple of months. So many clean Hondas in the South Island!
Hey Matt, am looking at buying a straight, povo spec EF hatch or sedan and getting them (the steels) made to suit.
some shops will only want to widen 15s or larger, thats what i found![]()
