    Agree

Going off that alone I had gen 1's and they went "all the way down" :shrugs:

Yea this is true, however I bought mine new about 2 years ago and they didnt have those lower rings at all, which is what led me to believe they phased them out in the later models.

amen. My worst complaint would be that they are not very forgiving on bumps in the road that other coilovers just soak up.

^ common too, valving can't keep up. Drove Ant's brother's sedan after mine, die D2's (from a long time advocate too). Hardly an apples to apples comparison I admit.

Likewise, and the Torneo would lay the chassis on the deck with the D2's in it.

They are a relatively good budget option though - I must admit, when I got the car with the D2's preinstalled I was pleasantly surprised, given the poor reputation D2's seem to enjoy. The car handled acceptably, sat flat, the main faults I found was the damping not keeping up with the spring rates on the bigger bumps, and they had a bit of an alarming tendency to bounce if you hit a bump mid corner while the suspension was loaded up.

I've got Tein Mono Flex now - the difference is night and day, it is actually amazing how much more effectively the Tein deals with bumps. Also, the D2's not having a pillow ball top mount has some bearing (pun!!!) on how direct things feel as well... with the spherical bearings in the Teins the car feels much more tied to the road, steering feedback is more precise as well I feel.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy D2's however if I was building car to a strict budget - hell, I'd still have them if I hadn't struck up such a good deal on the Teins. They definitely do not deserve the reputation they have.
    Old cars. Oh yeah.

Re: D2s - how to tell different generations apart

Same as Rich, Ive driven a mates car on D2's and mine on Teins the difference is huge. I would much rather buy 2nd hand teins rather than D2's

Will def handle better and probably last better in the long run, plus they will most likely be cheaper to boot lol
