    Download YouTube Videos as MP4 Files

    I just stumbled across this, which is very very handy.

    You may have noticed now that quite a lot of YouTube clips have got an option to "Watch in higher quality" - They've actually increased the resolution of the video, the sound quality, and changed the encoding type. Because the higher quality clips are in MP4, you can download them and play them if you have got Quicktime installed (Or if you think Quicktime is the devil like myself, something like this can play MP4, and every other format!) rather than having to download a dedicated flash movie player.

    However.

    You can install Greasemonkey, and then "Youtube Enhancer", to build into your Firefox the ability to download youtubes.

    YouTube Enhancer for Greasemonkey (install second)

    Just tested and works on my own PC. Very handy.

    Never had a problem with keepvid.com

    Paste in the youtube URL, click download, easy as that.

    And it works for other websites with streaming media :-).

    Rips the audio from youtube videos which is great if you want a one off song for your MP3 collection



    That site was fine but when I used it recently it had pop ups etc so thought I better edit it out.

    I use OrbitDownloader, downloads from multiple video sites and can convert to any format.

    Ok well I have used a few of these and while they work well, they all seem to compromise on sound/video quality a bit. Is there anything out there that will keep it as close to original quality as possible?

    Those that use Safari and want to download pretty much any file (video or not), a good trick is go to Window -> Activity, find the file you want to download (videos obviously the larger file) and then 'option - click' (or double click) and it downloads to your desktop. Works for flash files, video files, anything basically!
    Possibly not accessibly in China..

    Anyone got a good GM script for getting Vids off Facebook? at the moment im just pulling them from the cache put would prefer a download option

    i got an awesome vid of a mate cleaning a toilet with champagne

    I dont know what greasemonkey is (GM if thats what you are referring to) but Im currently using a firefox addon, downloadhelper. Never had any problem with it and it basically downloads everything and from any website that is streaming, including videos and mp3. its a great tool and if I wasnt mistaken there's built in conversion tool for that addon as well. If that doesnt work, I use the "Any Video Converter" for most conversions.
