    Lazy or not when I got pinged going to work coming up towards Maungatapere doing 124KM/h (100KM/h zone) they had a quick check of the car (WoF, Rego, etc all checked out) and just had a chat with me about it; ensuring I was very respectful; and got a warning, I was freakin' stoked. I know it sounds like he just wasn't prepared to go through the procedure first thing in the morning, but I'm convinced he was just being nice.

    Sometimes the warning is more effective in changing your driving habits than the actual fine

    Yep, I got pulled over once taking a roundabout on an 80km/h main road at about 75km/h. As I zipped around a cop came from the road behind me and switched on the disco lights. He said "I can see your car can handle the corner well, but other cars aren't quite designed the same and wouldn't be able to stop in time if they didn't see you turning. Just take it a bit easier, I'm sure it'd still be fun". Could have just been a prick about it and grilled me, but it was a lot more encouraging that he actually put more thought into the situation.

    Heres how you deal with bad cops;

    I got pulled over by two cops that were absolute bullies and a discrace to the police force. They bully me, pick holes at my car, stand over me, green sticker my car for a tiny little rust hole in the rear muffler etc etc. You know what I did? I was polite, did everything they told me to do, remained silent when they were trying to provoke me and trap me in words, didnt get smart, accepted the fine and green sticker and left. They were shocked. And later on that day I was still driving my car with the green sticker and one of the same cops pulled me over again and told me that he made it clear I wasnt to drive it unless going for repairs or WOF check, and that he could fine me but would let me away with a warning because I've been quite good about it all!

    Sometimes the best thing you can do it take it on the chin and move on, and hope that karma will be repayed. I havent encountered a bad cop since and that was about 7 years ago, but I know exactly what to do if I ever do.

    Thats true. I've been let away with a number of things by some cops, and because of the respect they have shown me I want to show them the same respect by not doing what they have asked me not to do.

    True that.

    Twice now as I've been heading up SH1 through the Rangitikei country, I've been humming along and a cop car has come the other way, and flashed his headlights at me... I've looked down and OH SH!T 110km/h on the clock...

    Both instances it was dead quiet, and the cops could have spun around, pulled me over and ticketed me no trouble at all, IF they had been the kind of cynical, revenue-gathering, quota-seeking b@$tards that some people keep insisting all Cops are...
    Yes I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes

    I was pulled over (a while ago) on my way to Uni. Had a 85 civic, smashed door, rusted out muffler. Look complete and utter crap...I usually caught the train but lossed that damn monthly train card. Civic had no warrent, no reg but had brand new tires. They saw me coming a mile off and pulled me up.

    Got a cop who said, "Did you know the fine for you driving, right now, is $1,300?" (I was on a learners) I explained why, and he gave me a no rego fine and said take it to class, take it home, leave it there till it is warranted and rego'd. Awesome, I was stoked with the fine tbh. Cop respect +1 that day
