Phil, do you have your house and contents with AA as well? I've generally found they're cheapest when it comes to package deals, especially if you insure rental properties as well.

hmm.... so nobody else on here has insurance on their s2k??
Phil go with AMI, the Panel beaters rave about them and says they are easy to deal with and actually pay out properly for repairs. Can't say the same about AA apparently (so they tell me).
yes, everything is pointing me towards them...
cheaper premiums, lower excess, higher agreed value cover....
thanks tom.
Wow AMI sound good those premiums are cheap for the s2k!
I'm with NZI pay $550 premium for my s2k (thats with a discount too!)
hmm going to make some enquries with AMI now lol

ami, nzi, iag seems to be the most easy and reasonable companies to deal with(good payouts, promt work process) as i do insurance claims/quotes for part time work at workshop

if anyones keen on putting their S2k on the track and not just posing with it, please pay the fee by this Friday
you know, its ok if some of us pose all day.
but if the whole bunch of us do, then how are we supposed to defend the "hairdresser" comment
but seriously, put your car on the track and you will really appreciate it. you dont know what you have until you experience it![]()

Hi All,
Does anyone know about the price and availability of a new soft top for a 1999 S2000, and who can supply, if anyone, as well as Honda themselves.
Mine (spa yellow, no mods apart from a K&N air filter and a foil hot air deflector on top of radiator) has a small hole where the frame has worn through from inside just behind top rear of driver's window (passenger side seems fine which surprises me).
Either AP1 style with plastic rear window or AP2 style with glass rear window would be ok (I understand AP2 soft top on AP1 car needs a kit that modifies the frame or something like that?)
Just trying to get an idea of how much a genuine Honda Top is and whether there are any other good quality options and what prices they might be if there are any.
Cheers,
Morrie.
hey therei think i have seen some thread on s2ki regards to the softtop issue appraently in america there is aftermarket replacement kits with glass and plastic which cost around $350~$450 us shipping would be another $150~$200? for ref here is a link HONDA S2000 CONVERTIBLE SOFT TOP & WINDOW 00 01 2000-01:eBay Motors (item 330345449253 end time Jul-27-09 10:28:28 PDT)
a one from honda is likely to cost twice or more....i presume
Re upholesery people might be fix up the hole? or
alternatively a mate of mine got his one replaced by his insurance company due to someone (axx hole) making few holes on the top
using some tool when it was parked in the city
there is a few guys here who work at honda so they should be able to clear up how much a genuine one might cost u![]()
Thanks for those soft top ideas kc.
I hadn't thought about ebay for some reason. There are several options for new soft tops overseas, including hardtop guy, and more than one specialist US soft top supplier who does S2000 kits in similar material (vinyl coated Denim) to the orginal Honda one, or in better quality heavy rubberised canvas, most priced at around $500-$800 US plus freight (the $800 ones are the heavy quality material and with glass window, and the cheaper ones, the cheaper Honda original like material and plastic rear window).
I haven't rung Honda NZ yet and will do that, but at the moment I'm taking a guess at perhaps $2000 NZ for a new softtop from them.
I see several NZ autoftters say they make soft tops for any convertibles, and one gives a standard soft top price of $600 NZ, which sounds pretty good if they could do a good quality and properly fitting S2K one for that price.
Was hoping someone here might have gone through this process before in NZ.
If a proper Honda one isn't too over the top in price I'd go for that option.
I've just remembered I do have three other mods (if you can call them mods) as well as the K&N filter and the foil hot air deflector above the radiator, I have the titanium gear knob, a perspex wind deflector between the roll bars (an excellent buy, a larger one than the honda branded one), and Toyo Proxes T1-Rs (205 F, 245 R) instead of the OEM Bridgestones.
Cheers,
Morrie
Hi S2k owners,
i'm new in New Zealand and do not know the S2000 market here.
Maybe your oppinions will help me with my problem.
I came here to live and work and in Europe I had 2006 Honda S2000 and would like to buy the same one here.
But only one I found here for 58000NZD 2006. Is this price reasonable? I think that price around 46000 - 50000NZD is reasonable price, and everything above is nonsence.
So what can you guys say, is there a chance to find 2006 S2k for under 50000NZD here in NZ?
I've searched Trademe, Autotrade, nzherald cars, but no result.
Thanks.
Those reallly are your main outlet for looking at cars. Have you tried Honda themselves?
k20 Monster EG - 290wkw - 11psi - stock K20A motor
I don't know if that price is reasonable or not but I would think that with the yen being as high as it is at the moment, the price of new imports would be quite high relative to a few years ago. Other than frequently checking the listings of those outlets you mentioned I can't think of too many options. You could consider importing one from japan yourself or through an agent. Could probably find one for around your budget.
MorrieNZ good luck with the soft topi would be keen to know the result as well since i have a hole on my one too but too tiny to be noticeable...
specnaz: hi there nice to meet you
hmm 2006! sounds too nice lol agreeing with all of the comments above..importing a car from japan seems its not a good idea atm
but could find some prices out for u if u want through jdm auctions give me a pm if ur interested![]()

facelift s2k from year 04 up etc been going for around 2.75m yen at auctions in japan... well non accident repair ones anyways... and with the current exchange rate you'll be looking at around $45k + shipping + customs + gst....
Specnaz.. $58k is probably a little high, although it all depends on the condition, and kms on the car.. i would expect the price to be around the $50k ish mark...
I might consider selling my white MY05 s2k (see photo above) if you are serious ... imported new from japan myself, and just ticked over 18ks... best model year spec if you ask me, facelift with all the improvements in ecu and gearbox while retaining 9000rpm and none of the drive by wire issue of the 06 model.

Hi kc.
Well I have got some prices from Honda NZ now.
$1953 plus GST for the plastic rear window version via airfreight (about a week) , or $1660 plus GST via sea freight (a few months)
Or $2231 plus GST for the retrofit kit (with glass rear window) via airfreight, or $1896 plus GST for the retrofit glass option via seafeight.
Plus estimated 4.5 hours labour at $95 per hour for a Honda dealer to fit.
There is also a separate optional wiring and switch kit for about $100 plus GST to make the heated rear screen wires in the glass retrofit option work.
The plastic window version via slow seafreight appeals to me most at the moment if I can't find a good and cheaper aftermarket option, as the hole in my roof is small too as yet and doesnt even let any water in that I can see.
Cheers,
Morrie
i think the glass window for the small difference in price is gonna be worth it... wont crack / blur etc... if you gonna spend money, it might as well be an upgrade....
the glass window is well worth the little more you pay.
replacing the soft top is one hell of a job, id recommend you get the dealer to do that.
got any pics of your car morrie? yellow is an awesome color!!

I am using AMI on all of my cars.

have you tried hardtop guy in us yet?I think they might able to do better price???I am abouts to get hold with them for some hardware for my hard top as well.maybe able to work out a deal with them..etc?
We build your dream car:www.speedfactory.co.nz
Thanks for that advice on the glass window and on getting the dealer to do the job FLYRYD and Sol, although I've happily lived with a plastic window for years now and it's never bothered me.
The best news is "she who must be obeyed" has given the thumbs up to a new top for the car if it's in the $2,500 range all up. We plan to keep the car for a lot more years yet so it'll be money well spent I think. I'll still investigate some local auto fitters and see what custom made options they might have.
Three photos attached, one parked next to my brother's boxster (which he later wrote off. Raining, very winding road, heavy foot, you know the story). And yes, the roof is almost always down, just don't seem to have photos of it that way.

Cheers,
Thanks for the hardtopguy idea Hare, but at this stage I think I'm gonna stick with either Honda NZ, or a local option such as an auto fitter if I can find one who can do something. If I change my mind I'll be in touch.
Cheers
Thanks for that balance. Have sent you a private message about your soft top.
Cheers,
Morrie
