New to hondas and would like some advice

Alright firstly, don't flame me if this has been asked before. I have tried searching but nothing has been satisfactory for me
    anyway, on to the question.

    SO
Planning on getting my first Honda and am looking for something that has a good amount of kick when need be but also isn't absolutely terrible on gas when just cruising about on daily missions to work and the likes.

Just would like some opinions and any suggestions that you guys/girls may have

Really liking the idea of a DB8R, but a mate also suggested an Accord EuroR

    Prefered 4door
Looking to spend up to about $8K (the less the better obviously haha)
    DOHC Vtec is a must

Comparison of "good amount of kick" is to my current car which is a 2000 1.8 SOHC Mitsi Lancer GLXi wagon (thought that might be helpful information)

Oh and i'm an NZICE'r so there has to be room for some mad sound install

    Hi,

If you want 4 door and DOHC VTEC,
    Get an Accord/Torneo Euro R

    They are awesome cars.

Any Honda would be good on gas compared to a Mitsubishi.

Re: New to hondas and would like some advice

Euro Rs can have gearbox issues, with graunching into 5th and reverse.

Which one you'd go for depends on your aims. The Euro R is more of a sports sedan while the DB8R is a more hardcore daily/track thrasher. If you're planning on chucking a bunch of dead weight into it (ICE) then the Euro R would probably fit the bill a bit better.

While you'd probably get a better condition DB8R for $8K than you would a Euro R, the trouble would be finding one in the first place.

Fuel usage is relative, neither is particularly thirsty, but then I drive a Commodore.

Euro R. You'd pick up something semi decent for around $8k if you look - there's quite a few for sale! Just watch out for the crunchy box

I've personally never rated the Euro R's very highly but LOTS of people on here would disagree with me.

For your budget and if you want a 4 door i'd say look at:
    DB8R
EK4 Si - 4 door EK B16A, quite rare though
EG9 SIR - really nicely speced EG 4 door with a few goodies and a B16A but a very old car now so hard to find a good one and you'll have to be pretend for the matainance and replacement parts that old cars need (even the EK is getting old and a bit tired these days).

Extra weight from the ICE would probably make the Euro rather suited though...

Well if you're gonna pack it out with audio then obviously performance isn't top of the list so why not go for an Accord Sir-T, still quite decent power, add a few upgrades (Euro R susp, a nice intake, header and exhaust etc) then spend the rest on audio Can get a decent Sir-T around 5-6k and the F20B is a nice little engine.

EG sedan has terrible boot space.

DB integras have terrible back seat space.

EK sedans have good boot space and good back seat space.

Accord has better boot space and better back seat space.

If you dont mind something with road noise and dont have Giants for backseat passengers get a DB8R, they are awesome fun and easy to work on, plus heaps of aftermarket support(I'm Biased)

If you want something a Little bigger and quieter and more comfortable then a Euro R. Less aftermarket support though

Brilliant answer, simple but answers a good few questions. Back seat space isn't super high priority for myself as i'll be the driver obviously. But leg room in the rear would be great. Accord is looking better and better honestly....except for the gear box thing

By little you mean it still has power, but not quite as much as the EuroR? haha

I have all of the Audio equipment already. Spent WWAAAAAYYY to much on that stuff haha

EDIT: Thanks for all the input by the way, the more opinions and experiences with the cars the better

    Agree with Fall3n.

SiR-T will suit your budget more than a Euro r, while still havin decent power and the same amount of space.

I have a DB8R and it is good on gas and over all a really great car. I have also driven A Euro R and if you are planning on putting a lot of sounds in the Euro R would be better in my opinion as the more torquey engine would handle the weight better than the DB8R.

Good luck with the hunt! They are both great cars and a lot of fun to drive.

Re: New to hondas and would like some advice

I've had a bunch of egs and a couple of eks, and have driven a couple of dc's, but the build quality and feel of my Euro R is just a whole nother step above. Certainly more of a cruiser and not as agile as the smaller hondas, but the factory recaros and metal shifter, faux carbon interior with 2x double din slots creating lots of space, massive, massive boot are all wins for me. However they really are a price point above too.

I would say you need to go and drive a euro r, and a db8r (or EK4 sedan) as they are very different feels. After that try out a Sir-T and see if you could live without the extra features of the Euro R.

8k is at the low end of the scale for a euro r but definitely doable, and for around 2k more than the lesser spec model, i think it's well worth it.

Well it's an F20B so it's a 2L rather than a 2.2L like in the Euro R, its practically the same block and head (Prelude Type S?) but has been destroked. At 200HP stock it's still got enough up and go when you need it

it all comes down to price and how much your willing to spend upfront on the car mate,
euro r is a better car overall as mentioned above however if ice is a must and you dont have any at present
then id suggest the f20b powered sir-t accord, not to mention that everyone and their little brother trys to steal
a euro r, so euro-r + mad sounds = thiefs wet dream..? in either case id factor in a decent security setup before thinking about
making the car quicker, just my 2c's

I'm so quoting that as a sig haha

    ---
[sigh]....people and having to steal others peoples cars, i really don't like that :/.
As i mentioned earlier (you may not have seen it however) i do have all of the ICE equipment, which i'll move from my current car to the new one (except the head unit and front components), so i don't need to factor in that cost. Thanks for mentioning the security issue as i had forgotten about that side of things.
Don't have too many car theives down in little ol' cambridge.

I guess in the end as Joff_NZ said i'll have to go out and test drive all of the various cars and see what feels best for me, but practicality wise Euro-R or Sir-T are seeming a lot more like the car to go for. I really do like the DB8's though

200horses....thats more than i thought it had
    F20B's algood?
I did a bit of searching and a few people had been saying they were a waste of time, which i find hard to believe, but just thought i'd ask and get it cleared up

Another vote for the Accord here. Although, I'm pretty sure that even an Auto 1.8L Orthia would have more balls than your current car.

hahahaha, yeah we are slowly infecting others and taking over the world!!!

I should be keeping tally of who vote accord and who votes DB8, but i do know accord appears to be taking the cake

Re: New to hondas and would like some advice

I vote accord if its going to be hit with ICE. The bigger engine size and torque means its less bogged down performance-wise by weight. BUT, have a drive of the Integra, Accord SIR-T and Euro-R, find good conditions ones (ones that have been looked after, look through our for sale forum), dont worry if it is outside your price range, you will get a good idea of what the car is meant to be like, that way when you look at the cheapies, you will know for sure something is up.

And IMO, Euro R is worth the extra over the SIR-T, better engine, seats, interior, suspension. It just means all those little mods you dont have to worry about, will save money in the long run from mods. I am glad I spent extra on the EuroR rather than the SIR-T, worth it for sure. But obviously completely up to you, check them both out and if the SIR-T meets your needs, then hunt down one in good condition.

Decent ITR's and CTR's are now pretty hard to come by for 8k, in saying that so are Euro R's. 10k will get you a much nicer condition one if you are prepared to wait.
