2013 Honda Type R Turbo Speculation

The next generation of 2013 Honda Civic Type R is speculated to be Honda’s first-ever turbo road car. Due to strict emissions regulations, the new Civic Type R will replace its 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine with a 2.0-litre turbo designed to comply with Euro V emissions regulations. Stop-start is also likely to be fitted too.

To be expected, we will be seeing the similar engine to be featured in Honda’s 2012 British Touring Car Championship challenger. The new 2013 Honda Civic Type R is estimated to churn out 210bhp, 0-100km/h in less than 6.5 seconds with a top speed of 240km/h.

Instead of 3-door, Honda will offer the car as a 5-door only. Prices are expected to start from around £23,000 in UK when it arrives in 2013.

How will the stop start thing affect the turbo? Or do real modern turbos not need a little cool down

Good to see they turbocharged it but still managed to drop the power compared to the EP3. And stop start will be rubbish for the turbo and it wont increase your economy enough to justify it being there. It's meant to be a performance oriented car so why not save stop start for their other cars. Looks good but if it ends up being out-performed by the EP3 then I don't see any reason at all for you to buy it

    The keyword is "speculation"

Looks to me like someones rendered a UK type Civic Type R (sorry I forget the chassis code... the one with the beam rear axle though) and added some extra doors and brought the styling more in line with Honda's latest Civic.
    Old cars. Oh yeah.

Re: 2013 Honda Type R Turbo Speculation

Or even WILD speculation. I call BS, sadly. One pointer is the 210hp output. Why go to the bother of turbocharging and getting less power (but clearly way more torque) when you meet Euro V emissions on a K20A just by choking it with a better catalytic convertor and revised timing etc and make 210hp anyway?

If it was as simple as turbocharging it they could just fit the K23 turbo from the RDX (not MDX ) and make 240hp (179kW) and 353Nm and be done with it. Yes, I want a K23 turbo engine too. if they wanted a 2-litre turbo they'd either destroke it or mix-and-match it and still make 240hp. 210hp from a turbo motor in a hero car is a joke thse days.

Sigh why do 99% of the new Hondas look crap And possibly speculation that it could be 2.2l or 2.4l but i think it could be the Mugen spec that will have the bigger displacement engine

Load of shit, Fairly certain honda have stopped making middle of the range performance cars as the market isnt there in todays shit economy.

210bhp is ass.... a b18cr mades close to that 7 or so years ago. Be a HUGE backwards step IMO

This looks a lot like a stretched FN2 Type R, with hints of CRZ in it. Well, at least it's not going hybrid. I do not like the designs that they've been coming up with lately, they kinda look good and not bad either but they all seem tall, fat and chubby with a high center of gravity to me. And I really hope they'll put independent rear suspension on it. Kinda good news... happy none the less.

The look doesn't do too much for me. Front , Back

    I agree with Matty.
IF they are going to make it turbo why not try get some more power out of it?

TBH as cool as a turbo Honda is, I would like too see them stay NA. It's in the Type R blood!
