Hey guys,
Got some 17's wheels put on my car and somehow they managed to completely screw the alignment.
Anyone know a good place for alignments in Auckland? Did a search and didn't find much.
Cheers

What do you mean by stuffing up your alignment? Is your steering wheels crooked to one side or pulling to one side?

Car pulls severely to the right after changing the wheels. Had an alignment done about 2 weeks before. I did think about taking it back to the place that put the wheels on (same place that I bought it from) but they were pretty unprofessional/unhelpful when I purchased the wheels. If they could stuff up my alignment just by changing 4 wheels, I don't know what they can do by actually having a go at aligning the car.
The place is a pretty well known/big shop, I don't really want to say what it is at this stage. It's definitely not my first choice for anything automotive related, but other places didn't have what I wanted.
So your wheel alignment was done 2 weeks before the new wheels. Was it fine then?
So it pulls severely to the right after the new wheels were fitted. Doesn't sound right, what size wheels were on the car before? Are the wheels you have on new? New tyres? Checked tyre pressures?

The place I got it from claims that the wheels are balanced when fitted on the car. Checked tyre pressure, all are at 35psi.
Original wheels were 15' 195/65/15 (I forgot width) new wheels (brand new) and new tyres (Toyo T1R) are 17' 215/40/17
I understand that with wider and heavier wheels and thinner tyre walls, the car will handle differently. But this should have no effect on the car pulling left or right?
Yes an alignment was done 2 weeks ago, and pulled dead straight. When I say severely, I don't mean that you're constantly fighting hard for control, but it's definitely noticeable/more than acceptable. Can't take hands off wheel for more than 2~3 secs for example, and when you're driving turning right is easier than left. Putting the car through it's paces a bit is harder, I often steer too much turning right and too little turning left due to different strength required.
Lol so not 'severely' if you can let go for 3 seconds.
Take it into Autolign and get a wheel alignment done. Alignment does change with new wheels. Problem solved.

Absolutly a change in wheel size can/will alter alignment slightly BUT usually not enough to cause problems.
What sort of tyres were fitted to the car ??
Sometimes cheaper tyres that are poorly constructed cause radial steer which is a more likely scenario than alignment.
Apoligies, was a bit of a wall of text post so didnt read the whole thing.
Could still be, even Bridgestone or goodyear tyres will sometimes have radial steer or more runout than expected.
More likely than an alignment issue given the OD of the tyres is the same/VERY close.
Only other real change is wheel width and offset but still should make little to no NOTICABLE difference....(less likely anyway)
Easy way to tell, swap the front wheels side to side (yes backwards) and see how it drives
Better to rule it out before getting another alignment.
sounds like a radial pull to me just like Greg said. either swap the tyres side to side, or just rotate them to the rear, and then see how it goes..
