DC2 ITR VS DC5 VTI, WHICH WOULD YOU BUY FOR 8k?

    Hi all,
I`m still stumped to which to choose. I`m considering either.

I have an 8k Budget, and need to consider carefully which to get.

I have narrowed down the choices to a DC2 ITR or a DC5 VTI.
If i`m getting the DC5, i`m gonna grab a new engine and stuff in the future. Money wise, isn't really much of an issue. But question is. which is a better buy?

DC2R by a country mile. If you're going to do a K-swap you might as well be putting it into Honda's best FWD chassis. It'll be lighter, faster, handle better, stop better and be generally more awesome.

Unless you like creature comforts of course, in which case the VTi will be more cosseting, but I've always preferred fun over comfort.

Hey! Thanks for the reply. I like shape of the DC5 .
Everyone is telling me the DC2 is much faster and such. But isn't the K20 a more reliable engine compared to the B18c5?

    no its not more reliable

reliability comes from how you treat the engine and how often its serviced

If I were you, I'd buy a dirt cheap DC2R, replace all the bushes and shocks. Then go to as many track days as I could afford.

But it sounds like you're more interested in straight line speed with all your talk of engine mods and swaps - so why pick a Honda? It sounds like you'd never be satisfied, might as well buy a cheap turbo, can't beat FI for gains per $.

Re: DC2 ITR VS DC5 VTI, WHICH WOULD YOU BUY FOR 8k?

I am a fairly new owner of a DC2R and all I can say is that it is amazing!!
Only thing it does not have is a fancy interior, but that really is not an issue.

To put my comments in perspective for you my other car is an R34 GTR and I love the ITR as much as the GTR.
Obviously they have 2 very differnt approaches, but I never feel short changed getting back into the ITR after a drive in the GTR.

I could go on about the steering feel and the lightness/go kart like feel but you can read all about that in many posts/articles.

Just try and hold out for the nicest one you can find and you will not be sorry.
But as JiB says, if you want to use it for drags then please dont buy an ITR as that is not really what they are built for.

8k can get you a fairly nice DC2R these days. Go for it!

    money wise = VTI DC5 < DC2 type R
if you will change the engine of that DC5 it'll cost you more than you could imagine..

i think there's a similar discussion not long ago regards with your question.

I would get a dc2R as they do better skids by far straight out of the box.
You might have additional criteria to judge a car on before purchasing, but I don't.

DC2R by far, go and take both for a test drive and you will have no doubt about which to choose. Handling is seriously amazing even in stock form. Miss mine so much!

Re: DC2 ITR VS DC5 VTI, WHICH WOULD YOU BUY FOR 8k?

I would say drive both, but for the 8k you have just buy a DC2R and go from there. From a performance perspective there's not alot in it between a DC2R and DC5R in stock form on the track and it really does comes down to driver ability. If i sold my DC5 it would only be for a DC2 or a K swapped EF CRX

I guess it also comes down to what you want out of the car. A dc5 is a much "Nicer" vehcile to be inside. More creature comforts. To me though, that just means more weight.

The dc2r to me feels like a much more direct car. Dc5's feel a bit disconnected from what is happening, a wee bit harder to judge what is going on etc.
(and before people ask, yes i have driven the standard R versions of both vehicles)

Its very much a personal opinion i guess, but i would think the majority would swing my way

The OG DC5 was technically bad. The FL was marginally better. FD civic is best.

I'd take the DC2R - top model in it's range. DC5 non R will just feel like a bit of a let down - if "money is no option down the track" then why not buy a $1000 run about and save your money and buy a DC5R?

    ^^ x3. You're going to spend a lot more making a DC5 VTI a DC5R. Just save and buy one. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used...-443682300.htm

^ Black one's reserve is $18,500. Would rather de-rice and turbo this. But the OP's budget probably won't quite stretch that far yet.

EDIT: Depending on condition of this, it might be good value relative to the others on sale, but it's a bit of a struggle contacting the owner.

Or that, but buy a VTI, chuck in a K20 and all the DC5r bits and pieces, and all you got is a VTI that cost you a sh*tload.
