IndyCars to use turbocharged K24s from 2012

OK not really, but it's a possibility, the venerable DOHC ZC is related to an earlier Honda race engine. IndyCars (the racing series, not the lame Chch car yard) have release their engine spec for 2012-onwards:

    - Maximum capacity 2.4 litres
    - Turbocharged
    - Ethanol fuel
    - Maximum of 6 cylinders
    - Output between 550hp and 700hp depending upon track
    - Other engine manufacturers welcome

    Next engine strategy is all-inclusive - IndyCar.com

Factory boost-friendly parts available for K-series maybe? Okay so these days not a lot of race engines are based upon OEM blocks, but dreams are free...

Was it in Indy where they had, at one point, the "overboost" function which you had something like 30 secs of per race or something? Or was that another class? I cant remember these days.

Sounds dope though. Those engines are works of art.

Nah it wasnt A1GP im thinking of, definitely was an older car racing series that ran boosted engines... Ill do some research. I'm sure they were running boosted V8's.

EDIT: Just had a chat to the old man, he seems to think it was an open wheeled Audi Series. They ran boosted V8's and had an overboost function they could utilised.

Sorry didnt mean to get OT, I was just wondering if it was Indy that did that, and whether they would go back to that (if it was them who did it). Could be a rad little excitener!

You're thinking of Formula Palmer Audi cars in the UK. They run turbocharged VAG 4 pots, with a timed overboost

The current Indy engine is an NA Honda 3.5 litre V8. Ultimate swap into an EG anyone?

They used to run turbocharged 2.65 litre V8s a few years ago before switching to the 3.5s.

I wonder if anyone at V8 Supercars is taking note of this talk of diversity, innovation, and manufacturer participation...?

FWIW: Exploded view of the current chassis with the Honda 3.5 V8 engine.

Honda V8 in an S2000 would be sweet. But as this engine wasn't made available to Honda fanboys, don't hold your breath waiting for mass-produced mega-4-cylinder IndyCar engines to filter down...
