| Senior Member 4,000rpm (Taxi Drag) | Wilson Bulk Transport Ashburton Street Sprints 2008 After a delay in getting the information out - due to not having a major sponsor, Wilson Bulk Transport came to the party for the coolest Clubsport event in the South Island (IMHO anyway) Event is Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th of May. Entries open this Saturday 8) Ashburton Car Club Committee Note this year - you can only enter on behalf of 4 people, I believe to stop people showing up with 16 or so entries at a time I'll be there for my 3rd time For those who don't know / or need a reminder: YouTube - ASHBURTON STREET SPRINTS Even if you aren't competing, make the roadtrip to Ashburton (esp if you live in Christchurch) and come watch. Sunday has the third run of all cars normally and the Top 32,16,8,4, then final. Free entry (if same as last year) and unlike most places nowadays, you can BYO alcohol and watch the event without having to pay $4 a beer! Both days are awesome to spectate. That includes you VTAKYO. ![]()

| Senior Member 4,000rpm (Taxi Drag) | Hope to see you there ![]() I'm ampted for it - its going to be awesome. Make an effort to get there Saturday, word has it that Hopper (Donn McLaren) is doing some drifting halftime in his Mazcort before heading down south to the Otago Rally. And he knows how to entertain - YouTube - rotor escort CCC members may be down this year (?) - some regulars aren't entering (Geoff Watson (selling car), Wayne Scott (overseas - but back this year on holiday to watch), John Cottier (overseas holiday) - Nate isn't doing it this year, and Allan lost his car at that event last year, but the Russell lads are entering & Malcolm, and myself, Logan (Corolla), Mark (MX5) and Nikki (Laurel) are entered from CCC. The other regulars (Mike Skevington (Civic), Dave Wilson (Celica), Ross McKay (Evo), Tim Cook (Evo) etc were at the entry day, so there will still be plenty of competition at the top of the table. And without knowing for certain but seeing Carl Vaughan's new Evo doing some laps at the last Speed event I can only imagine him entering - and I can't see Neville Stowell not doing it this year after last years amazing result... Lets hope the weather is nice to us ![]()

But on a serious note, I can only give up a day so when would the best action be? Cheers, Seeing as even the website for the event is a little vague. Hell until I saw this on some random sunday motorsport program I wouldn't have known such an awesome event existed! |

| Senior Member 4,000rpm (Taxi Drag) | Come either day - depends what you want to see. You'll see more cars on the Saturday, with the first 2 runs of all 54 cars, and Hopper drifting the Mazcort at halftime , Sunday you'll see elimination rounds (and the completion of the third run of all cars) up to the finale. If you only choose the Sunday, get there early - it starts around 9am. Cheers for the update on other entries ENT1CE - stoked to hear Alan Dunn will be back in the GT40. Will see you all there (damn its going to be cold)And feel free to post up any video footage after the event ![]()

| Senior Member 4,000rpm (Taxi Drag) | Re: Wilson Bulk Transport Ashburton Street Sprints 2008 I still have heaps of video to upload, but will do shortly. Had an awesome weekend, ended up third in class (1601cc to 2000cc) and when you are in the same class as Mike Skevington (White Civic you all know) you have to be happy. Everyones times were slower this year- the council resealed the road 2 weeks prior, so there was shingle to Africa all over the show, meaning the nice quick corners we are used to ended up being a bit slidy, which with haybales lining the road you had to take them with more caution than normal. Most people ended up 5 to 10 seconds slower a run than last year. However, means next year it'll be all good, and look for some record breaking times in 09. The slippery road and shingle cost me on my first run, had a slide then spin on my first run, which even though I missed the bales I still managed to (and I have no idea how to this day) slip the clutch cable so I had to change gears without a clutch using revs, popped a vacumn hose so lost all my power, and managed to make the fan stop working. Second and third runs were all good though, but not the sub 3 minute run I wanted, but having too harder shocks / springs didn't help there, as did the gravel. Awesome event as usual anyway ![]()
