Undoing crankpullly bolt

Any body got any suggestions on how to undo the crank pully bolt??, already have flywheel/clutch etc off so no real way of "jamming" up the rotating assembly..... any ideas?

Head still on? Got the one of my wreacked engine just using the pressure of the head. Just have to take the cambelt off and turn the cams so all the valves are closed.
Then try turn it fast and it comes undone.

Re: Undoing crankpullly bolt

put a couple of flywheel bolts back on, then get a power bar between them, so you can have one person holding that (or jammed into the ground) then swing away on the pulley bolt..

Thats the only way i've had any luck, with the jonesway tool. Cost me $64 from BNT. Kinda pricey for what it is but by doing cambelts on mates and family cars i made that $64 back easy.

Ive tried jamming flywheel, putting it in gear etc but never had any luck. ..

Re: Undoing crankpullly bolt

Yeah, I think it took three of us to get the pully bolt off my engine, one stopping the flywheel powerbar, and two swinging on the pully bolt

Re: Undoing crankpullly bolt

yo, u have a spare piece of metal lying around? around 10cm long with 2 holes in each end for bolts, loosly bolt one onto a clutch bolt hole, 10mm one,

and use a long ish bolt that can go where the gearbox bolt goes run a bolt through there and onto the bit of steel, and this stops the flywheel spinning, works for undoing and doing up

pic is basic and looking at teh flywheel

Re: Undoing crankpullly bolt

if its out of the car and on an engine stand then taking the sump off and jamming a block of wood inbetween the crank and block and then easy. if its not then put 2 bolts in the crank at the flywheel end and then a pry bar jammed on the ground i guess and hold on for dear life...
