Re: top ball joint

big hammer? the one that has the nut on it that holds the hub eh..

check all the split pin is pulled out.. undo nut about 1/2 way down (to protect thread from next thing to come).. get a mini sledge and "swing away"

Re: top ball joint

Strike the steel arm adjacent to the ball joint. The shock should loosen the press fitting.
Took mine off the other day and it took a wee while to get it to come off. Often having some hanging weight there will help too once it loosens.
There should be a small flat steel protusion on the arm to hit on and don't be a pansy these are designed to be bashed.

Re: top ball joint

if your car is anything like mine its much easier to undo the strut from the top, the two 14mm nuts rather than the bolt thru the bottom, mine a super uber tight!! plus you need to undo the top two nuts on the strut to drop it down to slip the factory control arm over to get it out, but im guessing you know that allready.

the drama ive got is now that its all hanging down i think the cv's have come out, anyone know if i need to remove the boots to ensure everything is tickety boo in there or wha??

Yes just undoing the top ball joint can let everything hang down and pull the CV bearings out of the slots.

try lift the hub back up and if the axel and everything slides nicely then its sweet.

If when you try to lift it up it just locks and you can't lift anymore, then the CV's are jammed and you will have to take the boot off
