Ball Joint problem

I'm having a little trouble trying to undo one of the nuts on the ball joint on my mates Civic Type R. The nut is turning with the shaft of the ball joint as you try to un wind it. Is there any way I can get it undone?

Also, we managed to get one of the nuts off on the other side, but the ball joint wont break free. Whats the best method to pop the LCA free from the ball joint?

Cheers.

Re: Ball Joint problem

rattle gun should get the nut off, and to get the ball joint out of the lower arm, use a BIG hammer to hit the lower arm or use a ball joint tool

Re: Ball Joint problem

Instead of creating a new thread, can anyone confirm, if the shaft turns with the nut when tightening/loosening does this mean the ball joint needs replacing?

Re: Ball Joint problem

Oh okay, it will be replaced. Ive been told however that one needs put pressure on the LCA to allow the taper on the ball joint to stop the shaft from turning when tightening/loosening the nut.Makes sense

Oh well, will get them replaced anyways. Thanks

If it turns when tightening/loosening then yes, putting pressure on it usually does the trick so the taper grabs, usually you dont need to with new ball joints since they are pretty tight when new.

Also, if it spins - it dosnt nessasarely need replacing - some will rotate and are perfectly fine. To properly check if it needs replacing, when the balljoint is all bolted in - check to see if there is movement. Any movement = replace.
