you can also check ur brake booster by doing the following

1. with the engine stoped derpess the break pedal several times - The travel distance shouldnt change.
2. With the brake pedal full depressed, start the engine - the pedal should move down a lil when the engine starts.
3. depress the brake, stop the engine and hold the pedal in for about 30sec - the pedal should neither sink or rise.
4. restart the engine, run it for about a minute and then turn it off. then firmly depress the brake several times - the pedal travel should decrease with each application.
5. if ur brakes do not operate as described above, the brake booster is either is in need of repair or failed.

this tell u that the system is airtight. if it fails then there is a problem with the seal round the piston

Yes your master cylinder is stuffed. Buy a new one, I paid $80 for a near-new one for my DA6, I was having the same sinking pedal problem.

Just make sure that when you remove the old one, use a decent open-ended crescent to undo the 10mm nuts that hold the steel hoses to the master cylinder, as they're super tight and will round easily. I had to use vice grips, mine were that tight.. then just undo the 2 bolts holding the master cylinder onto the booster, swap it over with the new one, do everything back up, bleed the whole system. It took me around an hour and a half.
