Location: New Plymouth | Air Bag Disabling I have searched airbag removing but has nothing about disabling the airbag. Does anyone know how to do this, being a electrician and auto-electrical im pretty sure I can handle it electrically if I know what to do? just not very keen to go playing without know what I am in for

Location: Tauranga | AFAIK you can get a car certed after removing airbags but its not easy to do because you have to prove you haven't reduced the safety of the car, ie you have to make it safer in other ways. I think i read in another thread that they can be disconnected pretty simply for when you're doing motorsport events so if thats the case that would probably be the easiest solution. Could quite possibly vary from car to car but i'm sure someone else will be able to give you a more definitive answer |

| You need to remove the airbags, any warning labels that showed you have airbags in the car, disconnect the SRS light, and any other thing to do with the airbags. Then get it certed, and it's still not easy.. Not worth the trouble at all. |

I say go for it if you need to do it. It'd be interesting to see it done properly for once. | ||

Location: Wellington | you can pretty much disconnect it. and put a after market steer wheel on while you day to day drive or track day. just put it back when it due to a WOF. thats what my friend does to its S2000.

Location: Whangarei | Be sure to disconnect the battery for atleast 1/2 an hour before unpluging stuff, it allows residual electricity stuff (technical aye) to get out of the system, as a precaution.

if you drive a car like this on the road, IT IS ILLEGAL. why would a insurance company pay your loss when it was caused by you doing something illegal? correct me if im wrong , but i dont think i will be wrong this time.

Location: Nelson | personally id just get rid of it if thats what you want/need to do for motorsport just get rid of everything on your car that has any reference to SRS/airbag ie change your gauges to ones that dont have an SRS light remove anything that says SRS on it! if there is nothing to show your car ever had airbags how are they guna know you have removed them? |

Location: Howick | well if your not bothered about the safety gains of airbags, just unplug the electrical connectors going towards them, this will disable them, then just cut the wire going to the srs indicator that way wof still thinks u have airbags (cuz u do, they just wont inflate)
