it really depends where in the boot coz it can be one of many things aye.

get one of ur mates to sit in middle of back seat with no stereo on really helps.

and if its lowered: shocks, sway bars? suspension bushes squeek when they are wearing out or need grease...go see ur friendly workshop whore

Wow! DC's have altenators in the boot? wow... how neat!

Try wrapping some electrical trape around the bottom of the boot latch. (think of the latch as a |_| wrap tape around the _ part of the |_|) Worked on my DA, should work on a DC (if it's the same thing)

You might need to put about 10 layers of tape on the latch. It will need a bit more force to close too. But ifit's nice & quiet, who cares?

Try what others have suggested first, but failing that...

Is it a noise that only happens on a rough road? If it is, I have the same (or at least similar) problem in my EF. Have a look for cracks in the plastic parts in the boot. These can change the amount or position of any force that the parts are meant to bear, and can mean there are bits of plastic riding up against others.

If there aren't any cracks, the only way to fix it is strip the entire back end of the interior out, and have a look at every point where pieces of plastic ride up against each other, then put a strip of sponge rubber on those surfaces. There's a lot of plastic in them; I don't know about the DC's but the EF Civic boot has a lot of cheap and nasty looking plastic, and isn't very well made.

I am pretty sure it will be coming from your rear suspenstion bushings.
I hear it on my car when going over humps.

And some cars, when they get lowered are really really loud.

Is it a metallic rattly squeek? or a grinding rubber noise?

EF's and DA's will have problems with the suspension bushes tearing if they are lowered without reseting the bushes, might be having the same sort of issues maybe?

I've also got a squeak in my dc2  It's not the one from the hatch area (got that too) but happens when downshifting/engine braking at low speed, and when taking off from a stand still, and then just after shifting to 2nd. Almost sounds like the squeaking from jumping or humping on the bed. I cant exactly pinpoint it, but my suspicion is suspension, probably bushings. Car's lowered . It gets annoying and embarassing too. Anyone had same symptoms?

symptoms almost sound a bit like an engine mount, as they tend to be most prominent in 1st and 2nd when the engine moves most.

Thanks for the input P, I found that the squeaks happen when there's more of a "back and forth/jolt" motion, and even more prominent when tapping the gas pedal on a slope (ie parking lot ramps/driveways), rather than going over bumps (up and down). So sounding more like mounts huh? I'll look into it first thing in the morning.

I think I figured out that the squeaking I was getting was from exhaust side of things, the springs where the cat meets the end of the header. I used some lithium grease, seems to be solving the prob so far... will know for sure after some more driving time.

So whats the best lubrication I can use for metal to metal contact, as these springs will be exposed being under the car. I've used lithium, this good enough? I dont wanna have to keep jacking up my car to apply it every so often.

the best would be a copper based grease such as koppacote, when the grease runs away you are still left with some copper lubricating it. Works well on threads especially in high temp applications such as header bolts.
