Dunno Grandell, but Gary Glitter travelled to Vietnam....

Seriously I think the aliens came here looking for intelligent life, found the whales and dolphins, said hullo to them and left again

Re: 20/20 - Your opinion on Aliens

Nobody likes to feel dumb, which is why religion was invented. It explains everything that was previously unexplainable, so then everything has a reason and a meaning and everyone feels smart again.

If you choose to reject religion though, you're still left with the problem of how to explain the unexplainable, which is where all the stupid pseudo-intellectual theories about the nature of the universe come into play.

Based on distant observation alone our ancestors blindly believed the world was flat and probably based a lot of their decisions on that premise, only to find out it's actually a sphere once they developed the technology to prove it one way or another. Why make the same mistake twice?

Accepting that there are things we don't yet know, and moving on with those that we do know about or can at least prove is a much better use of time IMO

So every time an American cop beats up some black dude, it turns out that there's five people in the area with video camera's, yet nobody who isn't clearly an utter total fruitbat has ever managed to video a UFO?

Tui ad goes here.

[this is discussing alien abductions, not the possibility of life]

I would've thought religion was invented to keep humans more happy about dying, every human's greatest fear. Is there a single religion on Earth that doesn't have the possiblity of afterlife/re-birth? It's a lot easier to die believing you'll be living another life afterwards.

Re: 20/20 - Your opinion on Aliens

I was talking to someone once who suggested the universe was like a length of tape. Grab both end and join them together but flip one end so you get a twist in the tape.

Anyone ever heard this explanation before?

I believe in some form of alien life, there is just so much that is unexplored. To rule out other life and say "its just us y0!" seems so ignorant.

Re: 20/20 - Your opinion on Aliens

hmm, wow alot to think about huh! i think we all have the same probleme of imagining nothingness.... infinity, you always think, well there is another island beyond the horrison..... trying to imagine you travel for 50 years and still 500years from the nearest land...... cant imagine that peronally!!

as for life outside earth, why do 90% of people think that all life forms need to live on oxygen.... what about fish(not the best example as they use oxygen but hopefully it works) they wont live for long in our conditions, and we wont live long in there conditions... but they still exist
even our top scientists live by the periodic table(i think thats right) and cant imagine anything being a composite of anything outside of that periodic table, untill we get past that, we will never comprehend life outside of our environment

Death is an unexplainable event though, and religion explains it, right?

Moclov, I always enjoy your posts but I'm going to have to strongly disagree with a few things you said in the above one ...

No point in me making an arse of myself (I have all sorts of other posts made and yet to be made for that, lol) pointing out what IMO is silly for some to think but everyone's entitled to their own beliefs/opinions so all good but

You may want to reconsider a few theories. IMO, Nothing but denial is too whack and anything is possible. But like you said, the time spent wondering is time better spent doing stuff that matters in the here and now.

If you look into or study a LOT of world religions like I have (hey I'm definitely no expert on any) but from my err "research" over the last few years, I can see similar patterns in religions/history/ancient civilisations/whatever from all over the globe and have formed my own opinion, for myself. It still leaves a LOT of questions unanswerable though ...

Stuff I don't even like to think about anymore.
Another shit and half arsed post from me but it's nearly 3 o'clock and I'm off to pick up the kids !

Don't want to step on anyones toes, but just some food for thought maybe.

Re: 20/20 - Your opinion on Aliens

I reckon there is an "afterlife" but not as religion explains it. Like think about when you sleep, the time you fall asleep until you wake up seems like it passes in an instant right? Now imagine dying as falling asleep and never waking up. How does that work? I believe when you die you will start your life as someone else. You will have no collection of this life or any events that happened. For example all of us would have lived a 'past life' as someone else, but as that person died we now live as who we are now. None of us have any recollection of what our past 'life' is like. Kinda hard to explain but like your consiousness moves on to another body. But yeah that's what I believe in.

Re: 20/20 - Your opinion on Aliens

No one every dies, "Energy is neither created or destroyed" You purely just changed into another form. Energy for plants. Then they get changed in to another form of energy when people eat them.

In the end every one and thing will be of the same energy.

Something I remember from Babylon five. "We are the universe, trying to understand itself."
So when all energy's are one again the big bang will start all over again. (too much energy in one place.)

Re: 20/20 - Your opinion on Aliens

this thread could be debated for ever.... there is no way of proving any of the points raised

I for 1 believe that once your time is up, that is it..... but until that day comes, none of us will no any better, this is just my opinion however, not trying to offend anyone else here

getting abit to spiritual head in the clouds sty there for me, sure we all end up a decomposing heap that blends into the ground.. but death is determined by the lack of a pulse (realistically).. we DO all die, and yes, our bodies do become part of the ground.. but thats as far as it goes i think. Anything over that and its a little mind boggling and in many ways, quite rediculous

LOL at Reaper post

Lol agreed. Although it'll be interesting to see how everyone's personality/being/mind which is just made up through the transfer of energy in our brains will fit into this cosmos field of energy. Haha if that makes sense!
