Re: Strong On Fire??

Gosh!! How bad was it? Are there any forum member who worked in Strong?
I hope all the people involved are fine. Does that mean the price on second hand part going to sky rocket?

Re: Strong On Fire??

Heard there was a fire on the radio, didn't know it was Strong!

Flames apparently 70-90 feet high, lots of explosions from fuel tanks in the car yard.

Road is closed off and fire appliances are EVERYWHERE.

Strong = goneburger at best

Re: Strong On Fire??

Geez that sounds bad. Don't think there will be much left for Post fire/water damaged sale. It will be hard to get some specific parts then.

Re: Strong On Fire??

You would think they would drain the petrol tanks before storing the cars. It would be like having a bunch of bombs lying around.

Hope everyone involved is ok ... and minimal possible damage is done.

Re: Strong On Fire??

With any luck the fire is contained in the wreck yard, but from reports on the radio it sounds worse.

it is common practise.. thats what we did where i used to work for a bit.. but also some cars did sit in the yard full of oil gas and everything until you actually get round to stripping them.. so yeah there will probably be a couple of cars there with gas still in them

but even then, the fuel is not taken off site.. just stored inside.. usually for when the work car needed gas..

so most likely same situation, all the oils, fuel and coolant would all be stored in tanks/ containers.. gonna be messy as..

i just hope everyone is clear and safe.. quite a few people i know work there

Re: Strong On Fire??

I would hate to think how long Strong will be able to back on its feet.
What a pity to those engine/gearboxes for sure. But i really wish noone's hurt.
So if they can't really put the fire out what's the last resort? Will they try to put it out with explosives like you saw in the movie?

Re: Strong On Fire??

Like this quote
"There was some guy in there with a fire hose. It was one of the employees, I'm guessing. I couldn't see him, all I could see was water squirting in the air but it was like peeing on a house fire."

Re: Strong On Fire??

So that's what it was... I work in Penrose and saw the massive plume of black smoke from somewhere over in that direction. Seems to be all over now though, the smoke stopped about 20min ago.
