Anyone know how to get rid of this annoying little virus? It stuffs up files and usb's. Been searching in google on how to remove the thing but they all come up with a "download this" type of thing. and all of them differ from the others.

Anyone out there know how to get rid of this Flashy.exe????????

Re: HELP HELP HELP. Flashy.exe virus??

Here's a good place to start should you try the above and fail.
Or, sometimes it's quicker/better to hunt for, download and run a removal tool.

Especially if you are missing some of the larger install files for some of the above items.

I hadn't had a virus for years up until last week when the PC somehow got infected with some stupid fucken Antivirus 2008, which I still cbf getting rid of. I've had a look at solutions and it looks like mine's going to be a right pain in the ass to remove.

No idea how I got it. Both the kids, Bex & I have been using the PC for years with no problems. It's only recently 'dodgy users' have been whoring my machine. Pwnd by guests ! I'm not mad though. In a crazy way it's kinda fun having a sick computer, lulz.

Good luck !

Re: HELP HELP HELP. Flashy.exe virus??

Hah, the internet is not for stupid people. It is amazing how many people I hear about who are like "man, this window on the internet said my computer is infected with virus's, so I clicked on it... got a report... and it shows these bugs I had. So I got their software to fix it *SNAP*...".

Stick with big name reputable companies gear. Norton, NOD32, AVG, Spybot Search & Destroy, etc. Just do a google on the software name, + review, or + spyware reports... and check peoples reviews of it to see if it is known to have spyware linked to it.

Re: HELP HELP HELP. Flashy.exe virus??

Generally as a rule of thumb, most if not all 'virus/spyware programs' that come up in popups are false. Be careful about what you click to close it too. Most of the time it doesn't matter if it says 'OK' and 'cancel' in the window, the whole window is a link to site. Best bet is to close it with the upper right hand corner cross. Although I've seen this being a link as well, you can tell it's a link if your mouse cursor changes to a hand. Best way to close these is to use task manager and close the window from there.

Not completely true. You can change what pointer appears on MouseOver/Hover events through CSS very easily. But generally yea, it is a way of telling.

Re: HELP HELP HELP. Flashy.exe virus??

Well If I were you I would be staying the hell away from Norton for day to day use, but thats just my opinion.

However here is the link to the page Norton has wrote up about the virus & how to remove it properly. You can just install Norton's trial and get rid of it and then ditch it (If your current antivirus isn't picking it up which it should)

http://www.symantec.com/security_res...508-99&tabid=1

Just read the WHOLE thing then got to the removal tab and it should be a tried and tested tutorial

NOTE: You MUST remove make sure that none of your external devices (IE Usb sticks and shit) are clean, otherwise its just going to keep coming back

Just be careful and remember to consider the source of where you are downloading the removal tool from. Don't want you to go downloading anymore nasties.

Pays to do a little research and see what has worked best for others with the same virus also.

Re: HELP HELP HELP. Flashy.exe virus??

I second that post about Norton, I've only used Norton once and it was quite a long time ago think it was Norton 2003 or 2004. Anyways installed it then got the 'your c: drive is running out of space' warning. I thought wtf I have like 10 gigs left. So I restarted the computer and it was fine for about 5 mins then the warning came back and my C: drive had like 2megs left. So I rebooted again and went through the c: drive and found the Norton live update folder was auto inflating itself. Like it will be 50megs, then I refresh it and it becomes 200megs, then 1 gig and so on. So I unstalled Norton and everything was fine.

Re: HELP HELP HELP. Flashy.exe virus??

Norton 360 is fine, I switched from NOD32 to it. I use it and it uses minimal memory and harddrive space if you set it up right; instead of enabling the stupid backup or data recovery features. Only three things annoy me: stupid UI, automatic updates can chew CPU usage, and the fact it can miss some spyware. So, don't think you could operate without also using something like Spybot.

Re: HELP HELP HELP. Flashy.exe virus??

The module that controls folder options probably got infected and deleted as a result. Back up all your vitals then do a reformat and fresh start. Often it is the only way you can totally fix a system after an infection of whatever kind has done its work.

Re: HELP HELP HELP. Flashy.exe virus??

What I have always done is have a partition/hard drive with only Windows on it. That way if I ever need to format I just format the windows partition and everything else will be left intact.
