If a police officer has his radar on constantly (which some do when parked on the side of the road waiting for a speeder) you will be able to pick it up in plenty of time. If the cop is pointing the radar and shooting directly at you then no it wont pick it up in time, however if he has pointed the radar at someone in front of you first then you should be able to pick it up before its too late as well  |

Radar detectors are fully legal... there was a proposal put forth that they be made illegal (the HZH article RJ pointed out) but nothing has come of it.... Labour don't have the minerals to do this in election year and the greens don't support it as it would also mean giving the cops more powers of search and seizure, which the druggie greens are well against. National have no plans to ban radar detectors and from my contact with Maurice Williamson (the shadow transport minister) over the past couple of years he has a MUCH more sensible stance on road safety in that he acknowledges that speeding alone is not a menace and ticketing people for minor transgressions of the law do nothing to reduce the road toll. |

Location: Howick | Re: are radar detectors illegal? ^^^^ just read that, a few valid points made If people really want to have a radar detector, they will keep it. nothing is impossible to hide and it will just be a matter of finding somewhere that the radar can still receive the signal clearly. i can foresee a "how to best hide your radar detctor?" thread popping up soon. hehe
