Re: Olympics - What Are You Watching?

I hereby deem that picture, a 'Classic'.
I lol'd, BIGtime. For those who don't know why, will not understand.

From someone who doesn't watch the olympics ...how are we going ?
Any medals, injuries, or just straight up 'Fail' moments for NZ yet ?

Only thing I've seen is the soccer that night where we got raped.

Re: Olympics - What Are You Watching?

Michael Phelps, impressive.

Mens 100m sprint, quarter finals wow. shot off the line, for the first 50, second 50m, just a "casual" jog to the finish @ 9.97sec.! haha.. ridiculous.

That guy is a freak!
Left it right till the wall to win the 100m Butterfly though.
I hope he breaks the record, they interviewed Mark Spitz the other day and he sounded like a knob.

Re: Olympics - What Are You Watching?

Seriously, how quick is this guy???

Threw up the claim about 30m out from the finish line too! 100m final canter-finish FTW!
Not so sure about the dude that finished 2nd jumping round like he'd won the damn thing though?

Re: Olympics - What Are You Watching?

Phelps is such a big deal over here, I was wathing it in the bar a few hours ago and they didn't even show the results of the medley relay, so I didn't get to see where the kiwis came. Hopefully not last.....

anyone watch the womans marathon? The woman who won was a good 1 minute and a bit in front of the rest. Feel sorry for the previous champion, got cramps halfway through and had to stop

Exactly what i was just thinking. Just watching him so relaxed at the end, when the 5 guys next to him look like they could die. Either that or he has a mad poker face

Re: Olympics - What Are You Watching?

BMX track looks good, there's a couple of big gaps with grass in the middle and one over a berm so you actually have to be able to get some air.

Because it's a race, like nearly all of olympic events, hater...

Better than two teams of mutant freaks on a square of lino touching each others bums when they score [/haterer]

Re: Olympics - What Are You Watching?

This is the qualifying/seeding runs, the top ?? (not sure how many go thru, the commentry through out the games has been useless IMO, unless you're an expert in the sport you're left guessing whats going on) times go thru to the next round, where they race in groups of 8 and you get to see all the crashes and shoulder barging.

As Neil said it is purely a race, no points for style or judging, so IMO its way more suited to the olympics than synchronised swimming or rhythmic gymnastics!

Re: Olympics - What Are You Watching?

Yeah, the commentary in general has been lacking. Considering its a first time sport and 95% of the population haven't got a clue what its about the commentators could have done a bit more explaining.

Mind you I suspect they're as ignorant/unfamiliar as anyone, one of the female french riders had a huge shit-your-pants moment bordering on becoming a faceplant into the asphalt berm when she topped a jump with her front wheel and the commentator didn't even flinch or say a word about it, I suspect he hasn't ridden a bike in 40 years and had no idea how close to disaster she was...

Re: Olympics - What Are You Watching?

Yeah I heard he was supposed to be alright, but no idea where he's ranked. AFAIK the girl is our best medal hope.
I've never seen it raced as an individual time trial like that, and it could be that its a whole new thing for some riders to be dealing with. Sharing the track with 7 other riders adds a whole new level of dynamics to it.
