Fish in a barrel...

Just went to lunch - theres about 10 cops on the corner of Queen/Victoria streets in the city walking thru traffic while they sit at the lights - Checking peoples WOF/rego/blood-alcohol.

I thought our police force is overburdened?

It probably is, but does that mean lunch-time drinkers should get away with it?

No, but just how many of them are there?

Didnt see anyone fail with excess alcohol in the hundreds they tested... quite a number of wof/reg fails tho

Re: Fish in a barrel...

I'd rather see the police focus on the piles of unsolved cases they have.
I know for a fact that Howick Police have heaps but still they choose to protect the community from drink drivers.
Drink driving and expired WOfs aren't our only problems

I think it's been well established that the NZ Police is just another branch of the IRD ... (Sarcastically)

if everyone had current wof's/rego's they wouldn't NEED to do this

seriously, can't you guys find something decent to argue about?

So you'd rather the police spent time trying to solve a crime that has already happened than trying to prevent one from happening all together?

Yes I see the point that there are more serious crimes than no wof or a couple too many at lunch time, but look at how quickly the recent lot of serious crimes in south auckland were solved. The police are definitely under-resourced and need more people to solve non-urgent crimes, but I would rather the protect the community from drunk/dangerous drivers than try to solve 2 year old burglary cases...

Re: Fish in a barrel...

I think it's a really good idea. There are alot of lunchtime drinkers in Auckland Central City, I used to know a few ... And be one of them on our Friday long lunches.... but I'd train home!

Agree with whoever above this post said that "if eveyone had current warrant and rego you wouldn't need to do this". Illegal cars cause crimes!

Maybe if the caught the person doing the first crime you mentioned(burglary) then he/she might not do it again?

This could just go around in circles but ive got all day.

Maybe when the Police catch the scum of new zealand and put them before the court, the judge backs us up and puts them into prision :?: but no they get a community based sentence yay IT DOESN'T WORK

At the Moment you would be suprised how many burglars are on bail still committing crime! if they were put in prison the crime rate would drop a shit load! I like americas idea three strikes then life (which is what 10years in NZ?)

I can't believe that prison in Wellington (I think?) has been shut for lack of prisoners!

Re: Fish in a barrel...

It's fucking expensive to put prisoners in prison.

To put them in prison we might have to... raise taxes

Re: Fish in a barrel...

prisons are only so expensive because we give criminals too many rights. Prison shouldn't be easy or comfortable, it should be hell. then not only would people be less inclined to reoffend and get back in there, but you wouldn't need to keep people in there as long either (not that that's an issue )

tougher prisons, tougher sentences, and a change to this pansy crap about not being able to take previous convictions into account

Totally agree.

Maybe we should block main city centers with chain gangs.

instead of getting the fuckers to watch TV for prison time, how about we get them breaking rocks 14 hours a day 7 days a week. $10 a day & that goes to the victims of their crime. Then they relax in their cinderblock cell for the remaining 10 hours.
