If you were late to work, you should have left earlier. The truckies gave 2 days notice of what they were intending to do, unlike miss king who dosnt give a rat's a$$ and dont give anyone any notice. The truckies are standing up not just for them, but for the majority of the country - as someone said, the rise in RUC's will then bounce back tot he cost of freight which will then be passed to the customer. So excpect food prices to rise again soon. Its not just the truckies that are getting stung by this, my dads a self employed plumber - been so for the last 12 years when diesel was as low as .40 cents a litre and petrol was 78 cents - and paying now over $300 every 6 months for rego, then RUCS on top of that, plus the rise in diesel is taking its toll, and so getting a plumber, electrician, builder etc is going to cost you more in a few places - their travel costs, their materials (which get delivered to the warehouse by truck) etc. This is true for most other small businesses who use dielsel vehicles. Good on them for standing up and saying this is not right, most of us would have sat on our a$$'s in front of a computer typing away merrelly, then go to the supermarket after work to buy $12 peice of meat, then go home and stay nice a toastie while the truckies are the ones that brought the meat to the supermarket, and you will find that while your sleeping nice a warm under the covers, there are some truckies that are driving on our pittafull roads across the country to bring food, mail etc to the cities so you have something the next day.

leave earlier for something we had no influence over ? .. dream on, i already get up before 6 and dont get home until after 7:30pm food prices, along with everything else rise every year with inflation, so interesting arguement you try to raise there, also the research and development to make food higher grade quality etc etc, a lot more factors than just 'the truckies are paying more' and 2 days notice of what theyre doing? wow i wish i got that lol.

Yes food prices rise with inflation - but thats not the only thing that makes the price rise - this is just another factor other than inflation. Well you could have known if you read the paper, watch the news (6pm and 10.30pm), listen to the radio, its even on the internet!!!!! tvnz.co.nz and tv3.co.nz.

I think his point was, fine, drive your trucks, get your message across, but why be such cunts to people by driving 3 abreast at 10kmh? I am glad they have done it, and wish i could have put up a big banner in support, but I went to work, got here on time, and it hasnt made a difference to my life in teh slightest sam

| Senior Member 6,000rpm (Max Torque) | Re: TOMORROW: Angry truckies to clog city streets Sorry reaper for jumping down your throat. My point was that it has been advertised that they were going to do it through various mediums, they did what they could - and that costs are gonna rise again, and again, and again - Its a COST WE DONT NEED RIGHT NOW and were not going to take it (although we have to) and although there was a bit if disruption, it was only for a few hours (for most centres that is). Yes, I do agree that some of them were cunts for 3 or even 4 abreast holding up traffic on the motor way - they could have atleast left 2 lanes free for cars. eh, its over now. Ill leave it at that.

We sent in one of our B-trains as he got back in early from his run lastnight and ironically when I turned the Breakfast news on this morning they zoomed right in on one our trucks that wasn't actually part of the protest, they had a special delivery in town this morning so were trying to do if before the protest.

Posted: 7:12am Post subject: 1) EVERYONE IS DOING IT HARD FUCK-KNCUCKLES. 2) You were given warning last time and that led to outright wholesale abuse of the system. Now you wanna cry about it? 3) 18 wheels really REALLY fuck the road, if you were to do a weight/wheel comparison you'd probably find truckies don't do so bad! (not the most salient of points, I know...) 4) Truckies will just do what they usually do anyway, and pass the cost onto the consumer. Interesting this is happening in the same week the gubberment got rail too... No sympathy from me (in case the tone of my post hadn't got that across) _________________ |

| Senior Member 8,000rpm (B Series Redline!) | Re: TOMORROW: Angry truckies to clog city streets Just did a quick costing on the price increases we will face. Each of our larger units (we have 4 now) will face an average RUC increase of $4428 every year. Doesnt seem so bad but when profits are at an all time low due to increasing costs an extra $4428 a year hits the wallet hard. As for Heavy vehicles doing damage to the road; the average 8 axle unit running at 44-45 tonnes (Heavy vehicles get a 5% tolerance on weight) will have a loading of less than 6 tonnes per axle. When the loadings are over 6 tonnes per axles the damage to the road is far greater. This is reflected in the RUC prices, an 8 axle unit will be charged less in RUC but the offset in tare weight (1 axle on a trailer can add a good 700kg) may eat up this cost advantage. |

She works in the City Centre just past the Tce Tunnel. All the Wellington Truckies were obeying the road rules and stayed in one lane, although in saying that there were cars stuck between the trucks yelling abuse for being held up, when the fast lane was free flowing and pretty empty. I could emagine if it was like what happened on the southern motorway (3 trucks blocking all lanes) but come on, a free flowing and empty lane.... ![]() I say good on em for taking a stand, but unfortunately it wont change a thing. One truck driver said on the radio this morning, "we should stop driving trucks for a complete week and then see how the country is holding up" Interesting concept, I'd say it would have to be at least a fortnight to reduce the country almost to a standstill, no food, no petrol, no product delivery, etc. and as for this comment.... leave earlier for something we had no influence over ? .. dream on, i already get up before 6 and dont get home until after 7:30pm I believe you wouldnt have been effected anyway if you were leaving at those times - got on the motorway at 7:30 this morning and it was free flowing, in fact my wife complained that she got to work far too early as the traffic was extremely light.

| Senior Member 7,000rpm (Peak Power) | Re: TOMORROW: Angry truckies to clog city streets The reason they put up the RUC with no notice, was because you are allowed to buy ahead for an unlimited time. When they made the increase last year, $17million worth were bought ahead just before the price rise. This is an exceedingly unfair advantage towards those companies who had enough cash sitting around to be able to buy ahead. So the lack of warning wasnt to be a bitch, it was to try and be as fair as possible. The law about buying RUC in advance is being addressed, but it could be a while before they sort it out. As far as I can see, yes it sucks, but they arent just taking your money and burning it. NZ's roads suck balls, we all know it, and this money is guaranteed to go back into roading because theyve just made a new law that makes it so. Yes diesel has always been cheap, but just because it was cheap doesnt mean it will always be so. If diesel and petrol are now being taxed at similar rates then that seems fair enough to me.
