I tried to cut down on paper by building a 7metre x 3metre white board and taking photos but nothing beats a good scribblepad.
I'm thinking about getting one of those infrared digital white board markers that upload what you draw and write straight to your computer.

id say its done with a toothpick, looks to be the case with these drawings and its one of the more popular ways to do this
