Re: Soccer anybody

Football is gods gift to sport. Rugby is for people who dont understand the word "sport"! if someone can name one thing about rugby that is normal or logical or sensible then please do because i have been tryna figure it out for years! The level of football over here is shit ass, if you want to see proper games etc. then go to europe, or south america. It is as people say, football here is like playing rugby without a watermelon, usless people who dont grasp the concept, and u shouldnt feel tired after a game that means you were playing logically & not wasting your energy! + its not soccer at all you knumbskull muppet people out there, its football. Footy, as players call it is a slang term that is loosely attached to rugby which needs to be ditched!! Go the real game and not a bumb touching substitute!

globaly sure its huge but here in new zealand the majority of red blooded testosterone injected mens men play rugby.......when not playing golf.......

And whats this about rugby being about touching bums ??? when they very rarely score a goal in soccer they all run around hugging giving each other the hopawati......

Re: Soccer anybody

Rugby is still one of the bigger world sports its nothing to be laughed at. It's a far more physical game - I like both and a great deal of poms frogs and even italians i know like it. We had some Italians come over in my 7th form and they were damn good at rugby, tobad we suck at football lol

As far as world-wide following goes it ain't got shit on soccer. Who watches rugby? NZ, a few australians (league and aussie rules have a bigger following), south africa, england and the pacific islands. Who watches soccer? Europe, england, south america (SA alone would have more people watching soccer than the world-wide rugby audience), and its growing in popularity in the US.
If you go to somewhere other than nz/oz/england/south africa half the people haven't even heard of rugby...

that's exactly like me, watching soccer is like watching a ball get thrown back and foward and there are rarely any breakthrough's however rugby is more exciting because there's so much action.

but playing soccer is still better...less contact even though you still get hurt

Re: Soccer anybody

lol @ the soccer vs rugby in here
i cant stand watching soccer on tv, whenever someone gets tackled, they grab their shin and roll around on the ground crying their little pretty eyes out, even tho they were hit on the opposite leg, or not even hit at all. bunch of pretty boy faggots
you would never see pinetree meads rolling around on the ground crying because someone clipped him. infact, the last time the great pinetree cried, noah had to build a big fuck off canoe to save everyone

Re: Soccer anybody

I can't watch or support any mainstream sport because I just can't stand the diehard fans who are attracted to them. IE, your generic hooligan soccer fans, and your meathead rubgy supporters (rugby heads or whatever). They drive me insane. When we have rugby games on the bigscreen at work I pretty much just go to sleep until they finish. Like, I can't believe how people get so caught up in the shit? Like, to the point where supporting a particular team almost becomes a religion to them. Whether a team wins or loses, it doesn't make one slight bit of fucking difference to your life. It only gives you wanking rights against the losing team(s) - which again is pointless, it achieves nothing. Sort of like the Holden vs Ford, or Import vs Domestic arguments... at the end of the day they don't mean shit, people will own what they want.

Thats my 13.5cents anyway.

Freeride mountain biking on the other hand, now thats a watchable sport. Same with any of the X-games really; you watch them to enjoy the sport and skill, as opposed to becoming obsessed about a particular team, yelling at the screen and getting angry.

Different strokes for different folks. Me personally i've played rugby for a number of years and enjoy the hell out of it. Soccer as well, but not so much.

I have to say, soccer or rugby whatever. At a professional level the amount of skill that is needed to play either @ that level is very high. Its not like just kicking a ball etc, like you would in your backyard etc.

Don't get me wrong, those free-riders need a hell of a lot of skill and it is enjoying to watch. They also need a Big set of balls, cause some of them are just plain nuts.

Good shit though

Re: Soccer anybody

Yea, I'm not saying they don't have skill, I know they do. I just think working around, and being abused by drunken rugby-heads and hooligans so much has just ruined it for me ! Among other reasons of course. Whereas in my mountain biking times, at all competitions and events I have never met a person I don't get on with. Then again, none of us are really the type to go down to the local pub and watch the Red Bull Rampage or the likes ...

Indeed, like you say: different strokes for different folks.

And thus the attitude... when you are inferior to someone the only thing left is you act like a gorilla. Met plenty of people with this attitude. The equivalent in motorsport would be when somebody runs past you and under the next breaking point you crash into him... PATHETIC.

Regarding players grabbing shins after every tackle..... you do that to attract attention and make it look worse then it is. Sometimes it can work as a yellow card towards opposition and that is a major plus because at the next harder tackle where the defender has no choice he may get a second yellow and he's out..... its all tactics but yeah you can't expect everyone to understand.
Haven't you seen what Podolski did in the match with Austria? He got his face pushed, not even hit and he collapsed onto the ground.... luckly for Austria that no ref saw it otherwise the other guy was out. Thats what you do.... stop drop and roll. You don't fight back. I was nearly sent off for fighting back one game when I got my legs kicked the shit out of me from behind with the ball 1m in front of me. Luckly I knew the ref.
Anyone remember Rivaldo at the WC when Turkish defebder kicked the ball harder to him so he can kick the corner, hit him in the leg and he collapsed holding his face.... red card for turk..... and $30,000 fine for Rivaldo after the game.... LOL.

Re: Soccer anybody

It does look pretty pathetic when pro players make hollywoods every game.

Ive had my fair share of yellow and red cards for various reasons but i try not to play dirty but if someone does some extremely poor tackling on me and gets way to physical i generally cant control my self and i go in for the kill..

Its a serious part of my game that i need to work on a lot.

Another real bad one i saw about 8 years ago a player from brazil got taken off on a stretcher after getting 'hurt' he went straight back onto the field.

LOL. I saw that happening quite frequently. Good thing that these days you don't see this kind of behaviour. Every unsportslike conduct is being booked which is good. I still haven't seen live tackles on refs before. Only videos on youtube without real commentary.

Re: Soccer anybody

I 2nd that, each person 2 their own thing! but.. i will say this! if we are the greatest rugby side in the world (supposdly) ranked no.1 etc etc. Then why didnt we win the world cup just been, and the time before that & the time before that... we might say its our national game but really, we still are nowhere on the world scale because not many countrys play it! Its a 2nd rate sport to most others, and yes.. NZ, Aus, SA, theyve heard of it.. its a different story in the rest of the world! Other sports are much more popular!

I saw last season a guy smack a ref over.

The ref gave him a yellow for a dirty tackle, then the player told him to get fuked, so the ref sent him off, then player turned around and smacked him.

Re: Soccer anybody

Well just because you are ranked No 1 that doesn't mean you are going to win every tournament. And yeah maybe there's not many countries playing it but I do think that NZ is a solid force in rugby. The only reason why they lost the last WC is because of the arrogant attitude. They are comparable with England at football. Very good team but....well.

Like I said I've got nothing against kiwi culture but some things are quite obvious.... Don't worry I could have plenty to say about mine so nothing personal.

Have played Mangere United once. They do have some dodgy way of playing and they talked crap about the ref when he wasn't around. So not entirely surprised.

Re: Soccer anybody

I don't go in for either Soccer (Football, potayto, potahto) or Rugby in a big way. The Hollywoods in Soccer put me off. Yes it's obvious it's a tactic and it works sometimes but when it's so blatantly false it makes me grieve for the inteligence of humanity when the ref, the crowd and the TV commentators all fall for it. And if I ever hear a South American commentator screaming "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL LLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" again it'll be too soon.

Plus the fact a game can go for 90 minutes and NO ONE scores anything p's me off. I don't want to see endless tactical moves, I want to see results. Soccer fans can bleat on all they want about how it's the biggest sport and blah blah but it just doesn't do it for me. And the whole Soccer hooligan BS seems to disprove the "only intelligent people get it" theory.

Similarly Rugby. I guess growing up in NZ and seeing how stupid people go over 30 guys chasing a bladder around a field, even to the point of it affecting the country's morale and the sharemarket, has soured me on the game. And the over-exposure doesn't help either. If I grew up somewhere else where it was a something of a novelty (like ice hockey is for us, for instance) I might catch the odd game, but as it stands I'll watch the odd Super 14 game but couldn't care less how the ABs are going.

And I've played both. Happy to play them, sucks to watch them.
