Squeezebox Duet: Wireless digital music player

Hey guys, looking for opinions/suggestions about digital music players, specifically the Logitech Squeezebox Duet
Logitech Squeezebox Duet Digital Media Receivers reviews - CNET Reviews

Basically i'm lazy, and i want to be able to sit in bed and access my entire music collection and have it play through my stereo. which is exactly what this does!

The box plugs physically into your stereo, and wirelessly to your network/computers/NAS?, so has access to you're entire music collection, and the remote is like an ipod, which you use to scroll through and chose what you want to listen to

has anyone heard of these before? used this before? or know of any alternatives?
it's available through c1com for $465

Re: Squeezebox Duet: Wireless digital music player

from what ive read they appear to be very impressive units .. ill see what i can find out for you over the weekend glen as i have a lot of hifi orientated mates who specialise in AV, some of the setups they have in their houses are amazing!!

Re: Squeezebox Duet: Wireless digital music player

ok, in case anyone cares, i got my Squeezebox Duet this morning, and have just finished setting it up

only one thing to say.... AWESOME!
even the box is fancy
easy as fuck to set up, plug it in, turn it on, download the software to run it, and you're done!
So now i can scroll through my entire music collection, complete with album covers etc, all in the palm of my hand, and listen to it through a decent stereo

I'd be interested to know of anything that it doesn't do, and stuff that annoys you about it, haha.

Re: Squeezebox Duet: Wireless digital music player

only found 3 things i'd like changed so far...

1) seems a little quiet... but that's probably as much to do with my stereo, and using rca outs instead of digital
2) would be so much cooler if it could turn your stereo on and off too (but really, you can't expect it to do everything....)
3) haven't quite worked out how to set the screensaver to show flickr photostreams just yet (it is a standard feature though!)

i guess its only major drawback is that its purely for music. if you want something that will stream vids to your tv you're gonna need something else. having said that, for music, its great!

Re: Squeezebox Duet: Wireless digital music player

heh, just looking at this thinking about my logitech remote and then concluded that they should make remotes that also store music and then the fucker will turn off your stereo....and tv.....etc etc........heck may as well make it a cellphone too and just live with the fucker

Re: Squeezebox Duet: Wireless digital music player

if they included a 500gb hdd with the Squeezebox then i'd say it'd be perfect, but as it stands i think the next best thing will be to buy a cheap old pc, strip it down to bare basics, grab a copy of FreeNAS and a wireless card and run it as a network storage device in a cupboard or something

unfortunatly my IT knowledge extends about as fa as knowing that that should work in theory. no idea how to actually do it though

Just buy a Belkin Tunecast and plug it into the 3.5mm headphone jack of the computer/PDA/iPod. Won't get the range your thinking of but should get at least 30m inside a house.

yeah but how much did your pda cost and it has no hdd... plus you still need something to run it to the stereo
when i work out exactly what i want to do in terms of a NAS, i'll let you know though

yeah that would work... but i'd rather run it from a remote than a computer

Re: Squeezebox Duet: Wireless digital music player

Hmm, but having a harddrive inside the Squeezebox would sort of defeat the purpose of it? From what I gather it is just a client on the network.

Re: Squeezebox Duet: Wireless digital music player

yeah that's basically it. really the main feature is the remote...

as it is, its fine, as long as you leave your pc on. but by building a NAS i don't have to

All music, movies, tv shows etc in the palm of your hand. Best thing is it will do that anywhere in the world (wifi dependent of course) Only thing it wont do is turn off/on my PC haha
