why should we donate ?

dont get me wrong I obviously feel for anyone affected by such a major tradedy(sp) but its not like china is a suffering economicly challenged country.

different story when the massive floods happend in the states tho eh....

Im not 100% on my theory either but they sure as hell seem to be consuming a fuckload of fuel and they have one mean mutherfuckin army......they produce basicly every product now knowen to man....

maybe id feel differently If it was new zealand and I was living in the states or england, but then again we're just a spek on the map compared to china.

yea my money is going to ex burma. Nearly everything is made in china, the biggest army is in china. I'm sure if they sold 146 of their missiles pointed at unoffensive Taiwan they'd have enough money to save a lot of villages.

Agree with you Greg, was concerned when I saw a link on the herald website to donate to China.

China is the most cash rich country in the world, with the worlds biggest army. If any country can look after itself if the face of a disaster it's China.

Burma is a different story though. The company I work for (H is donating xxx,000 to Burma. Worst luck it's all political.

I agree that china should be more than capable of looking after itself, just like the US did with hurricane Katrina...

And I don't think I'll be donating to Myanmar, as bad as their situation is, who knows just how much of it will actually be allowed to enter the country and what happens to it if its not?

It's got nothing to do with politics. Why donate money to a country that doesn't need it to deal with their current predicament? Throwing money at them isn't going to make anything happen any faster, or give it a better outcome.

As has been said, you'd be much better off donating your money to some New Zealand charity that actually needs the money, they're people, they're people, they're people too

As jase pointed out, look at the devestation from hurricane katrina and yet there wasnt a mass appeal to donate Because america is big enough and populated enough to support themselves Via appeal within their own populus.

When your talking about a little nation like samoa or indonisia(sp) or the cook islands (examples only) then fine they need the support.......enough of the new zealand dollar already goes into china as It is IMO
