Re: Truckers Corner V2.0

funny thing is not so long ago the green party was anti trains and boats because they created more polution than trucks and cars, strange now that goverment own the rail not a word has been mentioned about it, if they looked into they will find that most new trucks sold now comform to the new worldwide emmissions standards,

Re: Truckers Corner V2.0

Something that just astounded me was that on the new Annette King said that trucks are the number one contributors to road damage so it's a case of user pays for the repair. If that's her stance then why on earth are the LTSA trialling even heavier trucks on the road at the moment?

None of our fleet will be involved in the protests although emotions are running high right no within the industry. I really feel for the owner drivers the most, in the last few months Mainfreight have had 60+ owner drivers go bust.

Re: Truckers Corner V2.0

yeah, alot of our O/D's are selling up, moneys just not in it anymore, the plan behind the heavier weights is it will cut back on the number of trucks because they can carry more, maybe if they built better roads we wouldn't have a problem

Re: Truckers Corner V2.0

less trucks on the road = more work for less drivers, which will put alot more pressure on drivers to push the limits further, go over their hours to make deadlines and ultimately cause more accidents.
the price of EVERYTHING will go up further as most goods in nz are shipped by road, the transport operators will pass on the costs direct to the clients and people will then spend less money on goods.
im so thankful im no longer a courier now, gas was $1.40 when i left the game a year ago and i was barely breaking even, id hate to be doing it now

Re: Truckers Corner V2.0

YU back in her glory days, used to tow a 4 axle single bunk that Dad wrecked 3 months after buying the unit. Then we got the shiny new Kraft which has been on its side twice in 6 years:

Re: Truckers Corner V2.0

I see that the truck is branded "Prolog" - is that another Valder brothers company? It's the same font as Pro Floors (commerical concrete floors) and All in One Services (residential / smaller scale).

Naah it was owned by Colin Everitt of Waihi. Has since been put into liquidation and we are now contracting to Seymour Transport Services of Opotiki. Both of our trucks are ex Prolog trucks with YU being featured in the April 2002 edition of Truck and Driver.

Re: Truckers Corner V2.0

I was reading a brand new P series scania manual. Damn these things are so hi-tech now, just to check the oil for the ultra hightech retarder you need to do 2-3 things before hand.

Great read though.

Re: Truckers Corner V2.0

I've always wondered what it would be like to drive a truck down the Otira Gorge, I've always personally thought "Fuck that"

It's hard to get an idea how steep it actually is from pics:

http://www.photoshare.co.nz/PhotoSha...C_28111815.jpg
http://www.transit.govt.nz/content/p...ge-9356&res=lo

I blew a radiator hose clean in half in the middle of the Viaduct going up once and had to do a U turn to come back down, I shit my pants enough doing that, fuck being in a truck and coming across ICE or something.

Re: Truckers Corner V2.0

yeah i get to cover a fair bit of the countryside, been over there a few times now, scariest moment i had was losing traction climbing up from the west coast side, had to stop and put my diff locks in and crawl up the hill, the thing that worries ya the most is the drops off the edge the road

been in the snow a fair bit this year, getting stuck doesn't bother me to much as i have a decent sized sleeper with plenty of food and dvd player

The amount of times they have saved my old man climbing up goat track roads to pick up cattle is countless.

Air will have dumped from the bags in the rear as he was unchaining so truck is off. 40 tonne payload but fuel economy will be around the 1l/km mark.
