no......not as far as im aware anyway.......if someone attacks you and you retaliate and harm them (more than a black eye etc) then chances are you will face charges........of course that is at the discretion of the police

You are allowed to defend yourself with reasonable force.

However..

Reasonable force is personal opinion so yeah, thats why this shit goes to courts. I think M3_Power summed it up pretty neatly.

I think you'll find that these laws have been around for quite some time, nothing has changed since the Labour party has come in to power afaik. Sure, they could have changed them back in the day.

M3_Power is our resident lawyer. I think I'll go with his word over "your dad" - Unless he is someone also in the profession?
He definitely knows what hes talking about I'll leave it at that. Small wager? Hows about you change your title to Turbozxi is my Daddy if I'm right.

Yep, it is illegal to store ammunition and firearms in the same place (ie a gun cabinet), that is why you quite often get twin chamber cabinets, one for the firearms themselves, and the other for bolts and ammo.

Also, it is insanely easy to load a pistol quickly, and considering the ammo tends to be behind the counter (or very close to it) to prevent theft, then it wouldn't be hard to load even a revolver and shoot a would-be armed theif.

And blaming the law solely on the labour party isn't fair guys. Who was our government when David Gray (sp?) went nuts in Aramoana, and the resulting knee-jerk law change happened?
