Yep, it was posted on here a while ago and I disproved it. It relies on a generic randomisation of the letters within the word. By ordering them alphabetically it becomes unintelligible.

Theres a big differentce between an abbrieviation and an acronym. Neither should hold place in assessments or exams unless they are related to the topic i.e. IRQ etc. etc.

I can put up with acronyms for FFS, WTF and LOL but i can't stand abbrieviated words, i.e. text message language.

To be pedantic..
LOL, OMG, IMHO, HTH, GTG, GGP, IRL, J/K D/L, WTF, FFS etc are Chat acronyms, not textlish
But they probably are one of the reasons for Textlish spawning

[edit] Haydz, ya beat me to it [/edit]

I heard on the radio that the first 'abbreviated' word was around the time of Socrates or Freud or some other notable historical thinking figure type, and the word was 'gr8'

But I still think exams should be taken with a more serious note, and no textlish be allowed. Imagine these kiddies going out into the real world, with real jobs, and using it on their resumes, or on memo's at work... would you be impressed if you were a hiring employer?

My point exactly!!! Poor language skills from everyone else means that I am all the more employable due to my ability actually write in full English sentences.

Not smart from the Governments point of view, but it might work out ok for me

As I understand it, people sitting NCEA dont even need to sit an exam at the end of the year if they get enough credits by doing assingments during the year anyway :!:

I say let them use it if they want to...... THEN when the exams are marked, all the students that used text language should be given a bout of chlamydia. Knock those fuckers out of the gene pool once and for all!!!

Get Sir Bob Jones to write the rules for exams, he'd sort them out good and proper!

My girlfriend showed this to me today and it's probably the most ridiculous thing this government has ever done. High school is suppose to prepare you for tertiary education and if all the kids in high school get used to writing in txt they will hit uni and be absolutely rooted.

Writing in txtlish will not be accepted in the work place, nor will it be accepted at University. Why the fuck should the high school system give into common culture and allow incomprehensivly shortened words to be permitted in formal exam situations. A lot of the words are open to interpretation... If Universities were to fall for this crap, they would completely lose their credability. If High School is meant to prepare students for Uni and the workforce, isn't it contradictory to promote such utterly meatheaded mind processes.
