| Senior Member 4,000rpm (Taxi Drag) | Engineering Jobs Hey guys i'm in my second year of a BE at auckland uni and we need to complete 800 work hours in the industry, 400 general and 400 specialised. I'm keen to knock quite a few of them off this christmas holidays (november - february) and was wondering if any of you could help me out....so i'll be looking for a general job in the engineering industry..it can be anything engineering like...for example operating machinery in a factory, working retail for an engineer place..anything like that....so if anyone knows of a place that would be keen to offer me a job or just has some suggestions of where i could apply, it would all be appreciated..thanks |

Speaking from experience (Canty Uni Mech Eng Class of 2002) try to get the best work you can find.... the more USEFUL experience you get the better.... even though batching up screws at EDL fasteners or something will get you a good deal of your time "ticked off", you'll be better going round some of the engineering firms (probably more luck with the bigger firms like Downer etc.) and see if they've got something that appeals.... but yeah, you'll learn more that way. I did one summer working for a company in Hawkes Bay doing installation/fabrication work for Watties and other food companies down there and my second summer doing design work at Industrial Research Limited.... I never left that job and I'm still there to this day |

Location: Auckland | I've worked at Watercare for the past couple of summers (I'm in my third year at Auckland doing a BE), you could try them? They always seem to have interesting projects going on ![]()

| Senior Member 6,000rpm (Max Torque) | Whats your specialisation? If it's mechanical then the company I work for may take on one student per summer (which is why i'm working there!) Other than that, you could just look up engineering companies in the yellow pages and go visit them to drop off a CV, it's how I got my job!
