Political Threads!

Many forums actually ban political and religious discussions due to the inevitable flame wars they start. but what do you think? Vote now! (Damn, a political decision...)

I was actually quite surprised at the amount of political thread on NZH and some peoples really really strong views.

Most of the time it seems to be the majority vs. Baxter. .

At times i can see that they could get out of hand, but overall they've just been good clean debate. But NZH really does have members that are quite strong on all sides . Its quite intresting...

Vote for pointless, they often lead nowhere apart from everyone versus someone (often baxter, who actually seems to make more sense than any of us), or an all on all flamefest!

Can you add the option of "free and frank disscussion about important aspects that govern our lives"? That would be my vote.

Indeed, I was pleased and surprised the hight level of intellgent disscussion on the student loans interest write off thread. And equally that it did not end in a moronic slagging match. Well done to all posters (even the ones who are totaly wrong )

While none of the main proponents shifted opinion; many observers did - and they learn about many aspects of the policy they never would have otherwise though about (myself included) without such free and frank dissucssion. A valuable thread for those interested in making their vote meaningful and informed.

This makes NZHondas and its members smarter and more informed. As such I'd hate to see it banned. Sure if threads degrade to slagging matchs they should be locked - be that about politics or any other topic.

PS - anytime anyone wants to leap in and defend the left, just do it, anytime folks... Anyone?

PPS - to those who voted "all shite" to political forums - well just don't read them...

it has been good to read about pplz views on what party to vote for, and yes its good to see NZH been relaxed on the matter.
maybe it could be a common thread till the end?

I usually don't agree with baxter on political debates but i will agree with him on this one.
Generally the public is so mislead and ignorant on political type 'stuff' and topics like the polital ones are good to inform voters of what the fucks going on in our country. Voting for a party on the basis of "they have the best ad (which national do by the way  ) is a waste of a vote.
It's been cool to actually have a different/wrong ( ) opinion on these subjects and i commend baxter for sticking to his guns and standing by what he believes in, even with everyone else against him.
If you dont like the political topics just dont read them.

VOTE NATIONAL  8)

Any time you want to defend the "left", first go visit North Korea to see what true leftism is like, and then come back and join the "right" (or the center).

Er, perhaps you might want to look up the definition of socalism.

I don't recall the doctrine of socialism ever involving dictators...

A fundamental part of Socalism is democracy.

North Korea is not socalist. Nor was Solviet Russia (well certainly not after Stalin took over), nor China, or any other of the tin-pot dictators that set up shop and call themselfs Marxists.

PS - Have you been to Finland? Sweden? Go visit there and see their high living standards, and come back and you'll see that Labour are actually quite right-wing...

IMO the political discussions on these forums are informative, relatively civil, and a worthwhile read - even if totally unrepresentative of real life. I mean come on, are me and Baxter the only left-of-centre people standing up against the hoards of national supporters?

More political theads

Find me one of those values that remotely resembles NK politics? What remains in NK is a myth of the power of the 'worker' left over from cold war propaganda that bears no relevance to what is actually happening today.

National and Labour have more in common than labour/greens/progressives have with NK.

Baxter is right, Scandinavia is what lefties in NZ aspire to, not NK!

Like I said earlier, Baxter is often the only person in the discussions who has an discussion supported by an informed intellect. He doesn't just rabble on about how crap something is, or how it could be improved through mass rebellion.

It seems wisdom does come with age 8O

I might as well congratulate you now Bax, you are a set winner!

Indeed, rebellion is often the only way to make an otherwise ignored point noticed. Depends on what country you are in tough. Try rebelling in china and you will get gunned down by the army along with all your friendly supporters on international television. Whereas in New Zealand, the government doesn't give a toss as long as it doesn't affect their popularity and/or income. Our media is extremely biased, presenting only what the majority beleive, leaving the discriminated groups without a fair say. That is of no assistance whatsoever to little pressure groups out there who are all given false labels!
