Power FC install issues

Ive plugged it in, go to turn the key and it just cranks over and won't start, I give it some gas and splutters around 2k rpm, but dies as soon as you take your foot of the pedal.

Re: Power FC install issues

Is the option for boost controller kit turned on? It's under ETC -> Function select. Turn it off it it's on.

Re: Power FC install issues

Is it a brand new PFC? Otherwise perhaps your injectors are larger than what its configured for?

Re: Power FC install issues

Start with a reset, then have a look at the vitals while its cranking.
Could be locked, or faulty.

Re: Power FC install issues

Its second hand, it was tuned for diff mods so I re-initialized it, my theory is that doing that wiped even the base, or 'start up' map it has loaded on when its made (if it has one) therefore it will need to be tuned to get it to start.

Re: Power FC install issues

Are you sure you got the right model for your car? (if the boost controller setting wasn't turned on)

You don't need to get the PFC tuned to get it to start the car and be drivable, unless you modify your car's AFM, injector or cams.

That was my understanding.

Re: Power FC install issues

On my PFC, reinitializing through the controller doesn't erase the base map. It just goes back to factory spec. Idle will be rough as the PFC will have to re-learn again.

Re: Power FC install issues

Yea, reset should work, but not always.
Depends on who tuned it and with what.

I'm assuming it's not a conversion, PFC will not reset if not switched off as it should.
What was the injector setting before reset? and 100% after?

Boost control kit is only turned on as a default for some PFC, not all.

Re: Power FC install issues

right another problem

I sat through the initial setup, then turned the car off, now try to restart it just like it was before, the boost controller option is on and the screen contrast goes back to what it was (had to adjust to see)

its like its not saving the setup/settings

Also when I got to putting the AC on the revs would jump around and not stabilize, I left it for about 15mins in this stage but it kept going.

Re: Power FC install issues

where did the unit came from?

That happens sometimes and on evo engine check light comes on too

it does rev up and down sometimes at the beginning, and it goes away ( on some cars ) not sure why

Re: Power FC install issues

when tuning hondas mostly all hunting idle issues can be down to IACV duty cycle adjustment, injector battery offset adjustment (when A/C comes on more load is drawn)

ignition timing in the idle portion (should be the same so it doesn't hit another ignition zone and then idle up, then IACV tries to compensate then idle down again, cycle continues)

you can make them not do this, just gotta have settings right

no engine check light.

Its not saving any settings if the power gets turned off, the screen contrast and boost controller option goes back to when I first got it.

Is there a way to save the settings so if its turned off it will restart the same

Re: Power FC install issues

You got some serious trouble is if it's not saving the setting when it's turned off. Because that means the tune won't get saved too. Even when power fc is disconnected from the car, it should still save its values. It should have some kind of ROM storage that saves all those settings.

As for idling, Power FC book recommends that after resetting, you should let it idle 10 mins as it is, 10 mins with AC on and 10 mins with demister on. During those times the idle will go up and down as PFC learns to idle.

Re: Power FC install issues

connects with a bolt, all done up tightdone the whole 10min thing, Normal 10mins then rear defroster for 10mins then AC for 10mins. When I did the AC the idle would not settle, even after leaving it on for 15mins plus

Re: Power FC install issues

Silvia or Skyline?

STD factory fitted loom or refitted from different model?

If Nissan PFC can't switch ECU power then it will not set. Fixed a couple conversions that weren't done properly. Runs on STD ECU, but PFC must switch ECU.

Good luck.

Skyline, OEM loom, PFC is made for the car, no swap or diff loom etc, its all OEM.

Re: Power FC install issues

When I got my PFC I let it idle for 10 minutes, then turned AC on full blast and idled for another 10 minutes, then turned demister and headlights on and idled for a further 10 minutes. After that it was sweet.

Re: Power FC install issues

It is a fairly common problem it is usually the wiring loom not plugged in properly.

hmm will give it another go, seems in tight enough, I put the OEM one (which turned out to be chipped by SARD back in Japan) back in and it works fine
