Autogauge Closing ceremony out of sync

Not really sure where this would go.

If the ign is turned on and the gauges are left to do there sweep then when the car is turned on they switch off and start up again, funny thing is only the water temp and oil press do this, the boost is fine.. but if you start the car straight away without the gauges doing the check thing they work fine (do the sweep but not shut off again) im thinking this maybe due to my alarm and turbo timer setup.

When they shut down they all close down at different times to.

cheers

Re: Autometer Closing ceremony out of sync

I assume you mean that they turn off when your starting (cranking) the car, then come back on when the car is started. This happens for the same reason your headunit will turn off when you start the car. This is caused because when you turn the key from ACC to "start" the acc wire turns off, and everything that uses the ACC wire as a remote to turn on, will turn off.

hmm I get what your saying, ive tried a combination of all wires on the ign barrel but it ends up doing the same thing.

Like I said they power up and stay on if you crank/start the car before they do the full sweep. guess I can live with it but getting them to power down at the same time bugs me.

at the end of the day they work and can be read so that's the main thing.

Re: Autometer Closing ceremony out of sync

your ignition barrel will have 2 12v outputs when the key is in the on position.

one turns off when you go to start. the other one doesnt.

this powers the computer and fuel pump which dont want to turn off when the engine starts.

run them off that.

problem solved.

Re: Autometer Closing ceremony out of sync

If you dont like them doing that then wire a switch from +12v to the acc input on the gauges. That way they will always be on when you have the switch on. Then when you want them off, flick off the switch.

edit: or do what deanis said, there is a primary and a secondary acc wire, find the secondary one.

Re: Autometer Closing ceremony out of sync

Another possibility is that they dont like running on low voltage. Because they are electronic gauges, the voltage drop caused by the cranking of the starter may be enough for them to turn off.

Thats just a thought, more likely to be the acc source turning off tho.

cheers for that will give it a go.

as for the power down, the gauges do there switch off thing when the needle drops down to the bottom, because the water temp and boost fall faster (or read less on the gauges) than the oil press their sequence starts first, hence they shut off before the oil press does. Don't think there is a way around it.

If I were to get Defi ones it would have cost 6 to 7 times as much!!! these ones work fine.

Will try changing the wire tomorrow, as for the power down, I think im stuck with it

Re: Autogauge Closing ceremony out of sync

Assuming they're not all connected to a single central control unit like Defi gauges, I'd say you're stuck with them being out of sync The manufacturing and component tolerances would have to be pretty tight to get a whole lot of gauges to move in unison without communicating with each other.

Re: Autogauge Closing ceremony out of sync

My defi gauges do an opening ceremony when I turn the key to 'on', then when I start the car the gauges turn off when the starter is cranking then when the car has started it'll do the opening ceremony again.

Not sure what you mean about the closing ceremony? When I turn my car off the gauge needles all just instantly drops to the natural off position.

hence the tech thread for why they're not working properly? Haha just having you on

I agree with Moclov. If all the wires are connected to the same point but the gauges don't react the same but mean the gauges are out? Assuming there's nothing fruity in series with the gauge that out.

Have you tried just hooking them all up to a battery outside a car to see how they go? I did that when I got my DEFI's just to make sure they were sweet.

I think hes already figured why the power off at different times. Mine do the same thing.

Re: Autogauge Closing ceremony out of sync

Today i connected my gauges up so that they turn on only when the ignition is on, just find the wire that comes out of the ignition barrel that turns on when key is on "on".

It stops them from turning off when the car is started like you are getting, and theres really no point for them to be on when accesories are on either.

Re: Autogauge Closing ceremony out of sync

Are these the same gauges your were having troubles with??

http://nzhondas.com/forum/sponsor-pr...es-landed.html

I was looking at the Autogauge Nexus series and they are pretty damn $$$$, the RRP's are even more than Defi's! Unless I'm missing some small print on the Pioneer Auto Parts website.
